ok so recentely i went to have my car dynoed and i got talking to a tec about Front facing intake manifolds. i would love to put one in my car but im a little worried about emissons mainly the EGR valve. he told me that there are ways around it and that hes taken cars in with no EGR and they have passed emissions. what mods or tuning are necessary to pass emissions with no EGR or is he just full of it.

The stock TCCS runs a little different when EGR is not flowing. If you think you need a front facing intake, then I think you need a stand alone. Long runner manifolds work much better on the street.

You will run hotter combustion without EGR when EGR is in the ECU program.

Its not really mods, to make a car pass emissions, It is rather tampering with emissions control equipment that came on the car, which is illegal.

The visual portion of smog involves spotting the EGR valve.

Depends on where you are, in the Peoples Republic of California, that's true. But you folks are close to, if not completely unique inside the US, nobody else in this country puts up with the bullshit emissions laws you folks have.

Here in GA they wouldn't know an EGR valve if it bit them on the ass. Hell they don't care about much of anything except you pass the tailpipe test, they can see something that looks like a catalytic converter and that there are no check engine lights on OBDII cars, outside of that you pass here every time.

I have no idea what it's like in Colorado where the original poster is.

That is a good point, I thought the O next to his name was an A, but none the less, all the searching I did, came up with no results on Colorado Emissions laws.

For some reason I recall they are strikingly similar to California's

ha found a solution. there trying to fase out the old emisson in favor of this new faster way to check its a van on the side of the road that measures levels as you drive by and takes a picture of your licensplate and sends you a letter in the mail saying that you passed or failed. no visual inspection and it looks like that unless a car is way off the charts it will pass. emissons bah who needs em

At a metro Denver station where the IM240 is done, they do the visuals, and pull the gas cap and pressurize it. And of course the dyno pull to see if the car is clean. If your car runs correctly, it will pass, as long as your state hasn't gone expost facto on you for standards, like what I think is going on with Josh. That and his aftermarket cat.
