Why do I need them at all? I want to ditch the EFI main relay and fuel pump relay and resistor if possible. Advice?

Can you tell me the function of the EFI main relay? I understand that it switches power to the harness, but why can't I just give it 12v from the ignition?

Yes I know thank you. Why can't I bypass that and give the harness power directly? If I could it will make my wiring job a lot easier.

This is a 7M into a car that used to be carburated if it helps you guys at all.

The resitor you don't need, nor the relay that activates the resistor... if that's what you're refering to. the one that drops 3 votls unless you're WOT.

not sure if that's what you're talking about or not *shrug*

Because the ignition switch isn't going to be happy carrying that much current ;)

Thanks for the advice! I was pretty sure that I don't need a fuel pump relay, I can wire that to ignition.
The thing with the EFI main relay is that if I don't need that, then I don't need any part of the fuse box. My quality of life would improve if I can just give the EFI harness 12v directly and not deal with wiring in a relay.

Boso: Relays are your friend run them on EVERYTHING as none of the Toyota switch gear can handle current.

Lagged: Nah I'd rather help him succeed with this project as it'll make a fun car! ;)

Ij: Thank you for the straight answer. Now I know I will wire in the fuse box and just deal with it. Its not that hard, it just would have been a lot easier with out it.

lagged: I have not made a mess of anything. I asked about it first becuase obviously I didn't understand. This is a forum afterall.

Boso: Toyota and most car makers went light duty switch gear, thin wire and relays many years ago so the days of wiring a load to a switch are long gone unless you use aftermarket switch gear and heavy wire!

boso, you can check out a thread i posted in the reference section about the 12v fuel mod. it eliminates the fuel pump resistor and relay, and sets up the fuel pump with an aftermarket relay and heavier wire. works like a charm. :)
