Okay I tried searching and couldn't find my answer, and this will probably sound like a stupid question. I'm pretty sure on the answer but I wanted to go ahead and verify with everyone. On the ECU in my '89, it says 7MGT, followed by A/T. I'm assuming this means that this is an ECU for an automatic trans. Is this correct?

Reason why I ask is because my car is a 5-speed and I'm wondering if this could be the culprit in my speedometer and odometer not working.

Could be.

Your car may have had a transmission swap in the past. Or Maybe the ECU went bad and the previous owner bought a A/T one becasue he's an idiot.

I fully agree on the idiot part. A lot of my work has been fixing mistakes by the previous owner. I normally just search and read different threads for my answers, but I wanted to make sure so before I start looking for a different ECU. Thanks.

Good idea, but MK3's are scarce where I'm at. I know there are others here in Missouri, but not very close by. Maybe Springfield, but I'm not too sure.

Having an automatic ecu is not your problem with the speedometer not working. Check the speedo cable. And remember that it comes in two different parts.
