Im really leaning towards buying this 1jz engine without harness and tranny for 400 bucks. I found a W58 transmission with low miles but im stumped on the harness and ecu. Im pretty sure that I could grab a MKIII supra NA harness from the junk yard but need alil input. It seems like a great deal but dont want to get in over my head you know.

Any advice would be great. Oh yeah its going into a 89 nissan 240sx.

I know its on supraforums as well......

Thanks

It's not quite that easy, first off, no US supra wiring harness will fit the 1jz. You can only use a 1jz or 2jz harness from an overseas car. These usually cost a decent amount, $300-400. The ECU is the same deal, you need a 1jz specific one.

Also, if that w58 is from a mk3 supra, then it won't bolt up to the 1jz, only the w58 from the mk4 will bolt up.

There are a few guys who have done 1jz into 240 swaps and i'm sure if you search around some you can find someone who can give you 240 specific info.

Yeah the info im looking for is specific supra stuff. I already have read about whats needed to put the 1j into the 240 but im just unsure about the harness. I mean I can get the pin out and wiring in the greddy emanage ultimate like im shooting for im just stumped about the wiring issue. I know that a 1jz harness will be almost impossible to find so im trying to go an alternate route if possible. The motor mounts and driveshaft wont be a problem.

Thanks

I would try and find a Soarer, Chaser, or Aristo harness and ECU. The Aristo is a little more work than the other two, because the Aristo ECU is programmed for the larger displacement 2jz.

All of these harnesses & ECU combos will be cheaper than trying to find a supra one, since they're in high demand around here.

If you don't mind being auto (light RWD car + auto + boost) then you can just pick up a chaser or soarer 1jz motor set and it will run you less, and the transmission will not need any work.

Edit:
The Chaser is front sump, the style you need.

Id say buy a stinger complete with loom it solves your ECU & Harness issue if you still have the sensors like temp cam O2 etc. I think stinger comes with the adapter or the pigtail loom!

You come close to buying the stinger this route anyway because the ECU is 150-200 The harness is ~450 so for a couple more $$ you have standalone managment!
