I have a friend w/ a MKIII turbo I can get for cheap that needs a HG but I figure if I've already got it taken apart, I might as well do a stock rebuild to negate any risk of bad maintenance by previous owners. With that said, I was looking around and found this rebuild kit on Ebay however I am wondering if anyone has used it or a similar kit before? I'm probably going to end up building or swapping the engine later however I figure that the 500$ it'll cost me to rebuild the engine is cheap insurance for the mean time. Anyway here's the kit.

Let me know what ya'll think or if you can recommend a better one for a reasonable price I would appreciate that as well. I searched and found a few threads where rebuild kits w/ pistons, etc. were mentioned but none went into any real detail.

i didnt get that specific kit, but the stuff i got is the same.
i noticed the timing belt tensioner is made of some type of plastic, not metal like the OEM one.
also the HG, exhaust mani gasket and EGR cooler plate gasket should NOT be used get felpro or OEM for those.
as for the pistons, rings, water pump, timing belt, etc. i didnt have any problems with mine.

Ok cool, I appreciate the info. I planned on using a HKS MHG w/ ARP headstuds during reassembly however I'll have to make sure I remember the other gaskets as well as to get a metal tensioner. I should be able to get the car for between 7-900$ so if I can do a full bottom end rebuild for 500ish, I should have a very reliable platform to continue modifying from there. Are there any other 7M specific things I should keep in mind when rebuilding the engine?

http://store.driftmotion.com/static/i-npr7m-gtepistonset.php (gte pistions but im sure you can get ge)

and a gatorback timing belt from autozone or whatever local parts store, about $26

= $338.00 + shipping

ebay can be hit or miss, not always is but can be

and the pistons, in the ebay picture are npr which some said they had problems with knock offs floating around on ebay, not meaning yours will be but again, just could be

i'd feel better by going the route (and maybe spending about $80 more) i linked, but there are also other vendors besides just driftmotion and other gasket sets such as stone and cometic

Thanks for the info. It was mentioned earlier that I should avoid using the exhaust mani and EGR gaskets in kits like that. Do you know if that advice holds true for the gasket kit you listed from driftmotion?

Thanks Brandon!

I'll match the pricing on that eBay kit, I have all those items in stock.
Can't do the free shipping but I can do $309 for all those items. Standard or .5mm over NPR pistons with rings, standard or .010" under bearings, a timing belt, top and bottom end gasket kit, and a water pump. I'll even add it to my website this weekend!

Good deal. I'll be looking you up in January provided I buy that MKIII needing the rebuild.
