Referring to the hundreds of posts about the infamous 7M BHG.Granted,I have had good luck with genuine toyota and felpro headgaskets, but on 5M na motors, not 7M,and definitely not turbo'd 7M's.Even with the toyota ones some people don't have any luck with 7M headgaskets, let alone e-bay cheapie ones.

I put 230k miles on mine.

I got the cheapie gasket kit and used the head gasket as wall decor. No joke.

Genuine Toyota gaskets work just fine if properly installed, IMO. That means flat block, clean surface, possibly machined, perfectly flat head (should be machined) and copper spray.

That's why I said some don't have luck with them.I have had good luck with toyota gaskets my MK3 hit 180,000miles on the factory headgasket, would've lasted longer but when I bought it there was a hose leaking, and the car had been overheated a few times.I've yet to have a 5M that didn't break 220k miles,(cressida in my avatar has 514,000miles,changed stock headgasket at 280k,no problems.)Either way,I wouldn't use an e-bay/cheapie headgasket, especially with boost involved.

my factory HG is now at 257000km, never overheated. boosting 18psi daily on a 57trim, no prob
but I put proper torque on the head bolts. I think that's what saving it

I think the main problem people have with the Toyota HG is that it won't work on a block that's been resurfaced with a belt sander. Every BHG 7M I've ever pulled apart had apparently been resurfaced with something made by Black and Decker.
