just get the adapter and buy a k&n for $50. i got some advice from 2 different local tuners....
a. don't use the filters that are concave in the center AND have the small piece of metal in there. apparently he's had the center get sucked into the turbo, and that's bad.

b. the cheaper vibrant filters work great. he saw no power differences until over 600hp on a 2jz. at lower power levels they are fine.

My thoughts exactly. I guess I'm going to buy that Ebay kit, ditch the filter and spend the money on a good filter!
Thanks for the advice.

Umm, as it relates to our cars, no, and no.

First, do not use any filter that has an oil impregnated element(K&N) for filtration on any system that utilizes a Karmen Vortex style air flow meter. The karmen vortex meter measures the vibrations in a reflective strip of foil to detect airflow. If, over time, oil from the K&N filter covers this foil it is no longer reflective and then the meter fails. Avoid K&N for our cars. Next, while you should avoid the cheap filters that have that metal piece in there, it's because the filtration is crap. Even if that metal piece comes off, it won't go any where. The AFM has a honeycomb grill in there that won't let such a thing past.

Something you might consider, is the OEM filter and housing. It's true cold air, it's filtration property's are excellent, and there are several other restrictions in the system that need to be taken care or before this intake is a real issue. I know in traditional thinking the intake in one of the first things to be upgraded. But the MKIII's was well designed from the factory. Considering that you list no mods as of now you might consider putting your money in a few other areas to start with.

sorry for the confusion.... i am using the k&n dry. you could also get an aem dry filter.
i forgot about the afm on our cars. the metal is only a problem on cars that do not use the afm.
