Easy power?

I'm going to do a 2jz swap in my 89 mk3 turbo in about 2 months, is there anything I can do for really cheap (preferably free) in the mean time to give it just a little more power? I've heard of "shimming the wastegate" what does that do exactly? And is it something I could do?

Shimming the wastegate requires you to put washers between the wastegate actuator and compressor housing which puts more tension on the actuator spring therefor requiring more boost pressure to open the wastegate. One or two washers per bolt is plenty and enjoy fuel cut

Another is a new downpipe from the turbo as the stock one is stupid restrictive...you'll notice major change with that alone!

And yes it's easy to do...though pain in the ass as you'll be fighting the wastegate spring when trying to bolt it back on. Keep in mind that you're probably going to blow the headgasket doing this and then potentially rod knock the engine but if a 2j swap is a 100% thing then do it to it;-)

I'm with these guys, just save the money you would have spent with "easy power" and just put it toward your swap later.

I just put a 3 inch downpipe on it today and it does have a noticeable power increase. It has a hks metal headgasket, so shimming the wastegate should be ok right?

As soon as I sell my jeep, which will be June 1st hopefully, I'm going to do a 2jz swap into my mk3 turbo supra. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to my car right now to give it a little more power in the mean time for little or no money
