So I'm in the process of removing the viton from my MHG. What I did was soak it in acetone and scrub itwith some scotch-brite scrubbing pad. It works but it's taking for ever, and it's pretty tiring cause I'm just scrubbing really fast back n forth in a spot till it clean.

So let me know if you guys know of an easier method.

Thanks!

I come from a land down under
Nothing wrong with reusing them...

As long as none of the layers have any damage or cracks it's idiotic to buy a new one each time the head is off, I reused mine 4 times each before binning them.

I reused mine 3 times as long as it has no cracks it will be fine. You can use goof off, it takes off the viton very easily. Then give it a light shot of copper spray and your good. This is from my expirience only a lot of guys say dont reuse a MHG but I do.

Ya mine barely had 10k on it... No cracks, barely any of the viton came off from being used.

But ya I was scrubbing with some acetone, but I'll try some goof-off, see if that's any better.

Thanks!

On a different note, my block and head both have a .010 stamped on it. So would that be how much was taken off? It came with a 2.0 mhg.

Ok thanks, but I already bought some copper spray, n everyone else uses that it seems, so I'm gumna try that out.

And I spray all the layers with it?

nah just clean it up real good and spray the outside layer on both sides I wouldnt take the layers apart, keep in mind silicone spray or even viton for that matter is not gonna hold compression back. It's main purpose is to fill in small imperfections, water jackets, oil valleys etc. Once again this is my opinion and its worked for me time after time. Some of the guys I know dont even use copper spray when reusing a MHG and it seals fine.
