i've read conflicting reports about the drop-in-ability of the 1jz in a 1989 mk3. i know in 87-88 you need the new crossmember/mounts, but do all 89s have the new crossmember? or is it just the late model ones? How do I tell If i have the later crossmember?

one other question, will a 1jz supra clip come with the needed crossmember?

thanks so much! -Charlie

my car is an early 89... and i did a 1J swap

if its an early 89, you'll have the old Xmember. the Xmember in the clip wont work exactly. its backword for the steering rack, i think it is. i took the one out of my clip to my house so we could look at the Xmembers right next to each other and see. the angle of the mounts is different on the later models and the actual holes for the motor mounts is too small on the early one.

Can't really use the crossmember from the clip.

The later crossmember is in cars from February 89 on.

You can tell easily by the shape of the mounts, square = old, round = new.

Becauseican sells engine brackets for the 1JZ-GTE, so it can use the older mounts, I'd look into those if I were you, I'd say it's the easiest way to go.
