earls fittings

i don't have much experience with them and have a couple questions. can i use any ss line with the earls fittings like an-4 or dm ss ones or does it have to be earls line? also what is the an- size and size in " or cm off the return?

this will help me out a lot. thanks.

-x AN (x represents x/16" of an inch)

Only use fittings with their respective hose.

well zum thats what i thought until i started to measure these things. i have the earls fitting right in my hand and the OD of the nipple is 5/16". so does that mean i get the an-4 or an-6? i figure the an-4 and cram it on there but i'm not positive. here is what earls has for 1/4"/an-4.

an = 16th's of an inch.....
5/16ths = -5.

1/4 = 2/8 = 4/16 = -4

-AN is ID, not OD. It's pretty obviously a -4, assuming your measured correctly and give it a wall thickness of 1/32.

If it is an AN size and not some plumbing fitting...

Interesting, I've never run into a -5AN for an automotive/racing application. Nor a wrench for a -5AN fitting, LOL.

well IJ if its that simple then why can't i seem to find anything even close to my ss line in earls brand? everywhere i look it doesn't have 5/16 .3125" ID. even on earls full selection on holly.com it doesn't have them. so i guess i'm just going to order the AN-4 from jegs and see how it fits. i did get this afpr and lines from canada. maybe they have some special selection. idk. :aigo:

AN is always, 100% ID (Inned Diameter) not OD (outer Diameter)

Because you are lookng for automotive only. Look at hydraulic shops. They carry -05 AN hose AND fittings

It is without a doubt, ID. AN is always ID.

A real simple solution is where did you get these fittings? What size did they say they were when you bought them? Part number?

i said the nipple on the 90 fitting's OD is 5/16". the hose ID is 5/16". they say earls on them so it has to be an earls line apparently. here is a pic.

and nosechunks i got the lines, fittings, and afpr from some dude in canada.
