Ok so Im already in the camp of a stock good working clutch fan is better on a turbo but on my NA with a not so good working fan would I see absolutely any benefit whatsoever to applying an electric fan? Cus I know the stocker is giving stuff a little more drag than I'd like, any thoughts?

Id keep the stock fan clutch man. Efans are good and what not, but if it fails and you dont realize it, it could mean doom for your car. And the stick fan clutch doesnt take THAT much more horspower from the car man. It may seem like it, but it isnt really much.

the stock clutch fan would still be best IMO.. plus, the parasitic loss from a properly functioning clutch fan is pretty trivial.

No benefit unless the fans are off, and when they're on they're actually a bigger drag (because energy is lost in the conversion from mechanical=>electrical=>mechanical). Plus, a proper e-fan setup is more expensive than replacing a fan clutch...

Poodles is exactly right. What most people don't realize is even though you're freeing up the belt off the clutch fan, you're alternator is going to be working harder to provide that extra power. Seeing that no form of energy conversion is 100% efficient (kinetic -> electrical -> kinetic), you'd be hard pressed to come up with something that's even equivalent while they're running. And of course, there is that chance that something in the circuit will fail.

from some number crunching... efficency of that system is at a staggering 8% (or put another way, 92% of the energy is lost in inefficencies and/or conversion factors)!

Newer alternators are a hell of a lot more efficent!
