E-brake, brake lamp failure, and battery light on?

I just started having this problem appear last night.

I turn the car on and all the other dash lights disappear but these three remain. After a few minutes of driving it went away last night but today they remained on throughout my drive to work.

I'm actually leaving to LA and Las Vegas in a few so I have had no time to actually figure out what is going on.

Any suggestions?

Or worse. Could also have the alternator catch on fire (heard of it happening a few times), or it overcharges, or it kills the battery.

Fix ASAP to prevent damage to other components.

Could be anything from a loose wire to brush failure. A shame if that's the case since they can be replaced for peanuts without taking the alternator off. However once they're gone the springs will chew up the slip rings beyond repair...

The first thing I ever did to my Supra when I got it was replace the brushes in the alternator. In fact, they're the same as some of the '90's Celicas, because those are the brushes I used. LOL.

Oddly enough when I had the Alt. off my Supra, it was identical to a 91 Integra Alt. aside from mounting points and different size pulley.

Same ALT that came on the car here. New brushes and bearings at 90K. Now at 155K. Cheap and easy to do.

Can these new brushes and bearings be had from Toyota? I would imagine so by looking at the the TSRM but I don't see part #'s.

^ Yep, but they're available from other sources. For example the bearings can be gotten from any bearing supply. Hell, (not that I'd do it) they can even be had through Amazon.com. I shouldn't mention this but for you really cheap asses they can be repacked as long as they're not badly worn. It's not something I'd do on my alternator but I confess to having done it for owners in a pinch.

Brushes can be had individually or as a set with the holder. Holder is the way to go....gets you the springs. The downside to simple brush replacement is not being able to surface the slip rings but that's usually not a big deal.

Btw when I said "easy to do" I should have pointed out front bearing replacement requires pulley removal. If you don't have a rattle gun that can be a chore. In which case it's probably easier to buy one of the "strip and dip" Mexican rebuilds most auto stores sell....

I have a question. This is the Alt. that came with my JDM motor. What is the thing attached to the post? Only thing I can think is a capacitor of some sort to reduce interference?

JJ comes from the Model T era :D

Great, I gotta explain that comment. The owner's manual to cars that old have how to fix and/or rebuild everything (and came with the tools!). Since cars were so unreliable, it was expected to do your own repairs. Another funny thing is oil filters have come full circle. Old style was just the element, then we moved to spin on filters, and now we're going back to just the element...
