i do like the idea you have for the shop, i would just wonder what kind of insurance policy you would have to have for something like that.

i would have liked to have had something like this around me when i lived in an apartment.

You really dont want to know what they are asking for insurance. Im looking into alot of different places. There are a lot of shops that run like this in Germany and such. Maybe i can get insured from over seas. Haha, prolly not. Anyway, hope i find someone thats not after killin my accounts for this. If anybody works in the industry let me know.

I looked into doing exactly this years ago. With the American legal & insurance systems, it wound up being not economically viable. Even with signed waivers, etc.

Maybe things have changed. Part of your plan needs to be to assume you are going to get sued, and you're going to have to defend yourself. For me it was a deal breaker.

That level of grief and overhead made it not worth owning from my perspective.

And that was just a shop with lifts. A dyno? Hell no.

Yes I know Ive been working in the plans for this for about a year and a half now. Lots of people say the same thing to me. I know its not ez but if i can find away I will take it. I know a few people in the the Liar, i mean Law industry. They have some good advise for investing in this and doing it with little risk of a suit. Also their would be a seprate area for the dyno. And no one would use it but the three people trained to. One guy I talked to told me to have cert. classes. Like once or twice a month, have a class that teaches people the "Ways of a shop". and one for tool useage and equipment usage. Then they have to pass a small test to get into the "Club". Cuts down on the "I didnt Know," suites. You could run it like a "Club", that you have to be a member of. Like how places in dry countys, "no BEER" get away with selling it. Join the privite club for $30 and pass this test. That cuts down on insurance cost alittle too. It hurts my head that their are so many people that will take your money for their stupidity.

i was watching something on msnbc or one of the news channels and they had a guy on there that pretty much did nothing but sue airlines. hes gotten money and lots of free flights, from stuff as small as stale peanuts. its amazing what people can sue over.

the club thing sounds like a good idea, it will help cut down on some of the idiots that dont their car from a hole in the ground.

We had something like this on Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms. Although there was no Dyno, there were plenty of lifts (29 palms even had a paint booth). I like the idea very much. It's a damn sight cheaper than paying a shop to do repairs and such.

Going to need to grow a thicker skin if you're going to deal with the general public....

Ive worked in areas with the general public many times and for many reasons. Dealin with people sux, dealing with the public is a true ass whip. I work in the oil and gas industry right now. Heard of the barnett shale? Heard about what landmen have to deal with when these people gang up against you. Bring law suits with them and try to ruin your life for a $1500 check that is free to them. You'd be suprised what people will do for money thats not owed to them, In a since. Thought about tryin to get in on the local air force base too. Thats where i saw them over seas.

a few of the offroading trail places like tellico have/use to have shops like this with a full time tech to keep an eye on things.... pretty cool idea and i have thought of doing it here too but like others have said its just not worth the sue factor
