Dual outlet vs. single outlet... which is quieter and which has a cleaner sound?

The title says it all. I'm looking for a new muffler, I think I may pickup a Borla. The part I'm not sure about is whether a dual tip (I'd prefer the exhaust to look pretty much stock) is any quieter or if the sound is any cleaner.

I'd like to hear from those of you who've had the chance to hear the single and dual of the SAME muffler series on the same engine setup.

In my experience, the twin tip provides a more acceptable sound using the same muffler.

The only advantage to a single tip is the ability to add a silencer, if that is an option for the muffler you are looking at.

Go twin tip, even if it is a single tip type universal muffler, and you will enjoy less hassle.

Thanks, I didn't even think of using a twin tip.... I did end up ordering a single outlet because I couldn't find a dual in my price range. I still over extended myself a bit, but I've gotta get a muffler back on my car ASAP... cops are circling me like sharks.

I'm sure a twin tip doesn't make up for the difference, but at least it'll look more stock.

I've got two Borlas on the way.. one for a resonator and the other as the muffler. And, yes, I'm trying for as quiet as possible without any major restriction... all on a pathetic budget. :icon_conf

It might just be me, but the twin tips on the single muffler does give the impression of a lower tone. I have a 3" dynomax muffler on my daily, straight through race version. It is normally loud, but with my twin tips on it, the sound level is very low. I never worry about cops, I can drive around them all day long. I have a 3" cat though, a dynomax bullet resonator (long) and the muffler with twin tips.
