Stock manifold to a stock y-pipe (for now)

3'' cat with 2.5'' flanges on it... or i get a resonated test pipe with 2.5'' flanges. Now, will those two mufflers quiet the exhaust down enough? or do i need to run another muffler?

Do i just make a y-pipe right afer the cat to split the exhaust up and then go into the two mufflers....

OR

Do i put on another muffler thats single in/ dual out instead of the y-pipe...

Run TWO of these that would be right under the diff.

Then i would weld these on to get the exhuast away from the car...

Let me know what you think... im not scared of fabrication either... thats why i wanted to do something a little different... let me know what you think... Now im going to bed.

not side, it would end somewhere around the diff area... but im not sure if i want to go through the trouble of piping it all the way to the back like IJ. Is that y-pipe you have flybyux2 a muffler? or just a y-pipe?

Both, i like dual exhaust, and having a less restricted exhaust is always nice. It really should'nt matter if its for one or the other though... I just dont like the rear bumper of the supra, theres no like designated "spot" for the exhaust... and i like the look of no mufflers.

lol stuff like this is frowned upon. Anything that isn't a stock body MK3 is considered ugly from what i've seen on these forums. Ignore people who don't like this idea. It's your car, not theres.

[This post was made in case anyone after this post bashes this idea]

Even though it's not the MkIII and probably going to be considered irrelevant, there's a very nice mint-condition MkII near where I live that I have almost unlimited opportunity to look at and I can say for sure that on the MkIIs, you can't really see the muffler at all.

I come from a land down under
Doing another system like mine for a bud but it'll be in a stock fuel tank Mk3 so both pipe will go to a dual in/out muffler in the stock location.

Will post pics when I get around to it.

are you trying to make it look like a camaro or a mustang, coming out the back or what?

or do you want something like mine?

I actually want to make my exhaust like that! Except it'll just come out on one side. Something like the road racing Supras like this:

Wow, that's awesome! Is that completely custom? Looks similar to the HKS Dual Dragger, but with a much better fit and finish to it.

Yep, completely custom. It was done by Jeff Lange's brother Jason. The fit and finish are perfect there is no other word for his work but perfect in my opinion.

i have no muffler on my car, thats just a Dr.Gas Y-pipe. i think its one of the best y-pipes ive ever seen and exactly what i wanted. for air flow systems like this, which have velocities UNDER the speed of sound, you want it to split via a round edge. having a sharp edge like a merge collector that has been reversed will create alot of turbulence. the round edges that my Y pipe has creates a high pressure wedge at the divider.

i would highly recommend against running dumps under the car. the resonance will be horrible and make driving the car a pain in the ears. it tends to be a big thing amongst mustang owners and LS1-equipped cars. my friends FD RX7 has an LS1 with Long tubes, bullets, an X pipe and dumps; its ridiculously loud inside. of course, my car is loud but only w/ the windows rolled down. it quiets down alot when i roll the windows up.

i think for the most efficient exhaust, id get a Y pipe like mine and run two individual mufflers. i dont beleive single in-dual out mufflers have a very efficient divider. i think your best bet is to have a straight-thru style muffler as long as its large enough to provide some semblance of sound suppression.

btw, if i do another MK3, ill be replicating the GpA exhaust... amongst other things ;)

I think im just going to buy those small mufflers and then experiment with it... Im just worried about under 3000RPM... cause as long as its quiet while i leave my neighborhood, im good. But if its super loud at like 2000RPM then i'll have to redo it...

And i appreciate everybody being civilied on this topic, as i know some have strong feelings on looks of the bumper and exhaust...

flubyux2, i'll defintaley look into that y-pipe... might do a cat, then a 2.5 in/out muffler, than the y-pipe, and then the two mufflers that im thinkin of... just not sure yet... i like to plan things out, so i defintaley want to get it done right the first time.

and dr. local, would you mind posting some more pictures of that exhaust? i would love to see how it looks with the car lowered...

Just make sure you measure everything up under there. with a cat, muffler, y pipe, and 2 resonators / smaller mufflers you might run out of room fast. :)

good luck with the project, its good to see more mk3 owners goin the dual route :D

Hmmm... I think it would work good off of the OBX header. Where the 2 collectors drop into the y pipe. Would like to put an X in there, and run 2.5" dual from there. Think I'd turn it out the sides like Flubyux2 did. Not sure what to do about mufflers, though. Wonder what it would be like without them?
