driveshaft question...

Ok i got a 91 supra, auto..n.a.. yeah yeah but shes a beauty!! anywho...my tranny is pretty much gone and takes a while for it to shift blah blah..i can easily put another auto tranny in there but why? i got my hands on a manual tranny...all im missing are the pedals and driveshaft.. i found a driveshaft from an 84 supra manual tranny...so...can i put this 84' driveshaft on my tranny?...thanks...

I don't think you can use the 84'. I have a driveshaft for the R154 for sale $150 shipped obo.

The 84 Supra is a Mk2, so the length will be different. N/A's use the W58 Gearbox in the Mk3, the Turbo's use the R154 - use the correct driveshaft.

If you bend over and lift the tranny with your back instead of knees, and nothing pops in your spine, you have a W58.

Why don't you just have a custom one made? I'm sure there has to be a shop somewhere that can make you a lighter than stock one and at the same time eliminating your dredded carrier bearing. might wanna try like an offroad shop.

You pretty much need a DS (and the rest of the parts needed for an auto to manual swap) from an R154 car. If you find a stock one it will likely have a worn carrier bearing. From there you have a couple of options: Buy a new carrier bearing assembly and have it installed or have it made into a one piece shaft. I know certain people (IJ ) would encourage retaining the stock configuration with the carrier bearing and maybe replacing the rear section of the shaft. Personally, I went with a one piece steel shaft using the factory yokes for a little less than the cost of just a new carrier bearing. Now I have a lighter than stock driveshaft and I don't have to worry about replacing the carrier bearing ever again. :icon_razz
