I am wondering if it is neccessary to get a strengthened diff or driveshaft to handle 400whp

And i believe its neccesary to get a shortened driveshaft to use the r154 on the mk2, does it have to be fabricated fresh or can it the stock be shortened.

My question rephased

How much power can the stock mk2 diff hold
How much power can the stock mk2 DRIVEshaft hold

I was told the MK2 u-joints wont' hold much over 400whp for too long. One good hard launch.

Talk to Jawsgear.

I have a one piece steel driveshaft with spicer u-joints, and the larger yoke for the differential, rebuilt with a Detroit true track lsd 4.10. You'll also need a different yoke for the R154, as the stock MK2 yoke won't work with it.

It's ftw.

You will seriously want to rebuild that diff with a Tru Trac. Go to celicasupra.com and look in the FAQ. I beleive it has held up to and above those power levels before. HTH

This would be one of those times when you could go cheap and save for that 'big build' later. use the stock mkII diff and the w-58.

You gotta hit 400hp before you need to worry about what will hold it.

Guys on CS.com put 1/2js in and don't swap out rear ends. Keep the drag radials off and you will be fine.

When I graduate and start my 1 or 2j swap, do you think I'm going to worry about all of this? Nope. If I rip it all to pieces, thats just another 'you'll never guess what i did w/ all the power I'm making' story.

Well i would actually rather be telling storys of how i ripped a porches ass out of the hole and im still running strong. I will be using an r154 for sure with my 2j beyond 400whp.
