okay, i went and bought a used motor aprox 50k miles on it and put it into my 89 turbo. i've gotten it to start, but thats where the trouble begins.

it takes several cranks to start before staying on. when on, idles at 2k rpm. i retard the timing and get the idle down to 8-900 rpm. when i rev it, it hesitates then revs. i disconnected the tps, idle goes up(1100rpm) and revs much better. i feel like its missing something, or something else may be wrong other than the tps.

okay, went to check on power wires and noticed my main battery ground was hanging on by a thread. so, cleaned it up, attached a slug, crimped and bolted onto battery terminal. now car wont even crank. i hear the solenoid activating but not turning over. lately, i had been starting the car with a hot wire direct to the starter-so i wouldnt have to be going back and forth into the car. well, i tried cranking it from inside and it does the same thing, but the headlights pop up and down.
i figured i'd take a break so i turned on my radio. tuned it to a local station, but i have no sound now. i turn up the volume and hear nothing. i thought i'd call it a day, so i roll up the windows and i hear noise thru the speakers. should i be getting ready to set the car on fire?

shes is a stick, but i've done the push start thing on another car. i ended up with the same results as a problem. i'm going to check the wiring starting from the terminals. i probably have a short somewhere.

I had that happen to me when my battery was low. The headlights would pop up and then go back down everytime I tried to start the car. The alternator wasn't charging because one of the fuses under the driver side was blown. Try checking that out.

Put the key in the drivers door and cycle the lock to on then back off.

tried that. i was guessing the factory alarm was freaking out.

when i was cranking from inside, i had my battery connected to a battery charger. i had it set for start 200 amps, then 40 amps. with it set at 200, it would pop the headlights up/down. at 40 it would just click the solenoid.

I think you have to charge the battery first unless you're using a jumper. Try taking it to autozone or any near by auto parts store and have it checked.

If you interup power to the ECU, the theft deterent computer thinks the car is being hotwired and disables starting. Everytime that happens, you must reset with the key in the driver door. Evidence of antitheft engagement is the horn for a minute and headlights. I don't think the hor keeps going if you don't reset, just the lights.

You realize I haven't seen your car, so this doesn't mean that is your problem.

Somebody could have tried to slim jim your car and broke off the electrical lock switch also. That would leave you in antitheft mode.

oh chit! the car is in front of the house, as the driveway is blocked by a camaro and nova. i wouldnt doubt some one would try it, as the neiborhood kids have seen the car run. would i have to remove the door assembly to get to the door switch to deactivate antitheft mode? -in the sense that its not de-activating when i unlock it.
it actually brings me to a memory of my old tiburon. it did the same chit after attending a concert downtown.

was using a battery charger connected + to battery - to engine @ 200amp(start position on charger) & 40amp (fast battery charge). 200amp would have the lights pop up & down, 40amp would just click the solenoid.
battery was good, just running low on juice.

If you look at the wiring diagram, disconnect the harness off of the factory alarm (above steering column) one of the pins (i think orange / black, but don't quote me) goes to the starter kill relay, stick a paperclip in there, and run a wire to a ground while you try and start the car
