I just purchased my supra about a month ago. I bought it partially b/c it was a one owner 130K car. Can't go wrong right...well I have a few things to sort out as usual for a car that's almost as old as I am. One thing that has me a little confused is that I changed the thermostat three weeks ago b/c of a fluxuating temp gauge, on occasion. Since the change the temp gauge hasn't moved. I thought everything was good 'till I went to KC this last weekend. I have a power steering leak that requires regular attention. Iwas filling it up and saw some drips out of the overflow and some on the rad. When I got to my destination I couldn't realy tell if it was low. Today I checked the rad and it was only low a little bit( 1" out of a gallon jug). I would have thought that if there was air in the system it would have showed up by now, i.e. flux temp and such. It has and continues to run in exactly the same area with no change. I have a rad cap on order, but I don't want to miss something that is preventable. I've burped it with no real results, I let it idle and even run the rev's up. Sorry for the novel but I'd just as soon get it all out there in one shot. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I even asked my dad who is a mechanic of 20 some years and he didn't have much advice for me.

I have that problem too and I cant figure it out either. Thats because I replaced the water pump, rotted out the radiator , and put a new radiator cap and it still does the same thing. So know I just check the radiator all the time its annoying but better than a ::bhg::

I check everything on a regular basis. That's why this last trip has me confused. I have gone through probably 30 heat cycles or beter since the thermostat adn no change, why now? I was running 75-80 which is a little higher than normal. Does that change anything?

When this happened to me my radiator cracked and leaked the day after. I don't think it is that but I think it is something related to the radiator.

you might want to inspect the return line to the overflow tank and the cap for the overflow tank.

i think it may be possible for that to leak a little while the coolant is flowing into or out of the overflow as normal.

i havent looked closely at mine but once in a while ill see a LITTLE TINY bit of moisture from that dump tube out of the top of the over flow.

i just installed a metal head gasket and i highely doubt its leaking or blown. i havent even had a chance to detonate on the thing so im sure its good.

also, the overflow NEVER fills up and there are NEVER any bubbles coming out of the overflow so i am 99 percent positive i do not have a BHG.

i think its just that the cap isnt sealing up right and a little bit of water goes the wrong way.

i don't know how bad yours is dripping but mine started slow and progressed in to non stop dripping when this happend to my N/A. it started dripping and then started overheating. next thing i know its misfireing from coolant in the cylinder (BHG). fix the HG and it was fine from there. if the owner has never done a HG on the car at 130k its prob overdue for one, BUT I COULD BE WRONG!

Check your head gasket.( If you already changed thermostate and checked the return lines.) make sure your fan clutch is still working also.

Just to let you all know, I changed the rad cap and haven't had a problem since. I nervously watch the level though. I want to stay on top of a possable BHG. Thanks for laying out some possabilitys that I hadn't thought of/or wouldn't have checked. Cheap fixes rule (crossed fingers).
