I wonder though if the damage is from trying to "save the missed shift" or from the missed shift itself.

Yikes...

I think that if I were to just keep the clutch pushed in and coasted out the rest of the run, I wouldn't have broken it. Even though it sounded like one noise, I knew that I missed the gear when I let out on the clutch / applied gas, then pushed in the clutch / put into gear, then bad things happened when I let out the clutch and applied power again (all in a split second).

On a side note, the bell housings weren't that hard to find at all. Within 12 hours of posting my wtb thread, I had about 7 responses.

I do wonder if I'm still in the year warranty for the clutch. Realistically I should be since the car didn't get on the road until mid summer, but I think I might have bought it about a year and one month ago :/.

Do you guys think I could use a different brand pressure plate with the SPEC clutch disc if it turns out to not be toast as well (seems like I should be able to, but it's always odd about compatibility)?

why would your friend even bother wasting your money on a spec clutch if hes been through 3 of them... that just seems dumb.

this thread and MANY more like this are why i went with a Southbend DXD Clutch Kit...

He did not spend my money, he spent his own. Spec replaced clutch 1 and 2 under warranty, but would not help at all with the bell housing - all three were destroyed.

In each case he was driving normally. The corner of the cast pressure plate broke letting the strap rotate out and chew in to the bellhousing. Perhaps multiple hard shifts crack and eventually break the pressure plate but not until centrifugal force is high enough does strap rotate outward.

I bought an RPS carbon-carbon long ago.

Hit up driftmotion. One of their Action clutches might be a good choice for you. Thats what i plan to use whenever my stock clutch shits the bed.

Got some new pics up on the original post. Amazing how similar it is to 90T04's failure.

As a follow up to what I posted, I ended up not getting the transmission out before summer, only just now (was in Texas for an internship). Also, I ended up buying a 2003 Tacoma prerunner (most well behaved and reliable vehicle I have ever owned). I got the Supra running earlier tonight after I rebuilt the clutch master cylinder.

Props to IJ for hitting it right on the head :p.

I've miss shifted several times with my spec clutch and never had an issue. I dont see how a miss shift would cause that either though.

Well I guess it wasn't really the missed shift so much as the fluctuating full power applications with an upgraded clutch.

I'm assuming that getting the Supra running means you have a new bellhousing, but just in case, I've got a 7M>R154 bellhousing that I'll let you have for the cost of shipping. It's just collecting dust in my garage as I no longer have a 7M Supra.
