1. What is it?
2. Have you ever changed one?

Actually, I looked it up, and it's a henweight.

The muffler bearing is smaller, and has lightweight lubricating fluid that is siphoned off the blinker tanks. That lubicant is way to thick to be on a muffler bearing, it would crust up, seize and the bearing would fail. (Leading to a very expensive MBR proceedure. Last time I looked, it was 25.6 hours of labor to perform the MBR. At 75.00 per hour, that is pretty dang expensive, not to mention, the cost of the muffler bearing itself, seeing how only OEM replacements are reccomended. I dont want any cheap aftermarket muffler bearings on my car you know.)

man, you guys are good.

it is a wheel bearing for the rear passenger side. It isn't exactly an easy task since you have to take off the whole rear hub which includes taking apart the parking brake assembly and then you have to use like 10,000lbs of pressure to release the bearing from the hub itself. - wasn't fun but i feel damn good that it's all back together and my car isn't making a damn metal on metal noise.

In the first pictures i tried to get shots of the damage but it didn't turn out very well.

u dont need to use 10,000lbs of pressure.

just take out the half shaft...it like 6 bolts...real easy..then the fucker just falls out.

i dont know johnny... if yours just fell out, then you have some problems... usually they're pressed in pretty good... i have no experience with mine, though, so i have no idea. just non-supra applications. my maxima, for example. is usually pressed in... my RF bearing falls in and out. the knuckle is all worn out :(

would you explain what was the symptoms that lead you to replace the bearings? I have some noise from the rear end that i am chasing for a while. What kind of noise was it? was it a rolling noise? or squeeling noise (like a brake noise when pad is almost used up)?? Thanks,

Starts out as a squealing noise. Kinda like a worn break pad but mine was higher pitch. They will also sound like a metel scraping or grinding. Depends on what part of the bearing or hoe seriously it fails. Best way to tel iis to jack the car up so the wheel is off the ground. Grab the wheel at 10 & 2 O'clock try to wiggle it back & forth. If there is any movement/Play then the wheel bearing needs to be replaced.

My symptions were just the noise and a slight vibration only at certain times. When i grabed the wheel it felt pretty solid. So first I checked the rear end and the axel. Both seemed to be fine. Then a friend of mine jacked up the car and said it was definatly the wheel bearing.

This seems to be a little more common with the mkiv's when they have some track time under their belt.

I'm pretty sure mine only went bad because i spend every night it rains out doing donuts.
