The eBay knock-offs are really heavy duty, and a simple extra hole drilled and tapped provides the 2nd bolt point. As long as it stays in place and it's loaded heavily against the frame rails by tightening the center screw assembly, I think they would work just as well. It seemed to on my car at least.

Is this one real or an EBay knock-off?

No this one's real.

Larry A commented that adding the bar made an 80% improvement in reducing chassis flex when driving with the roof off. WOW! I never had bad chassis flex like so many of you on here always complain about. I was riding in one MkIII with the top off when we hit some pretty nasty flex. I was floored! I had never encountered that before.

I agre on this. I had significant body flex with the top out. Installing this bar eliminated almost all flex. It was worth the coin for me.

I sold mine a couple years ago on this site. I had a hard time selling it. Unless under the most extreme conditions, this will not do anything for a hardtop car. Targa will benifit the most. 80 percent, never gonna happen, maybe 30.

Sorry, It's a cross brace. It really makes a difference in Targa cars.

And Boris Isn't a noob.

Since the Supra is a Unibody car. Anthing really makes a difference.

Bishop did a write up on it on his site.

Rule of thumb Big Companies like Doluck and Denso. Put a lot of R&D on their products so I wouldn't question it.

Ninja Edit:KeithH beat me to it.

SP Engineering sells them.

The crazy part is when I went to install this bar there was a perforated hole in the carpet exactly where the hole in the bar was... When I removed the perforated hole in the carpet there was a threaded nut welded into the body - also in the exact place it was needed.

It was almost like Toyota designed the MkIII to have this bar.

What year is your car? Mine is a 90. I've never checked, but I don't think i have that Perforated hole.

I'm going out to the car today, i'll check it out.

Ninja Edit: No Perforation here.

Question everything. Cusco makes strut braces for our cars... does that mean they actually do something? ;)

Mine had the perforated holes also.

No perforated hole in the carpet? Interesting.

Mine is an 89 - as is Chris J's - and both had a perf'd hole in the carpet. Larry A had an 88? and he also had the per'fd hole. It isn't clearly obvious that there is a perf'd hole until you look closely.

Yep, that's how mine was. It's like toyota knew it would be an aftermarket part to combat the targa flex they should have tried to eliminate in the first place.
