Hi Guys,

how come, my car doesn't get hot, but it looses water from the overflow once I stop? I once had an bhg and then it relaly squirted water from the overflow, but this is different.

Any ideas? I had some slime in my valve covers=> bhg?

thanks

Mark

I just had this probalem , luckily mine was my radiator cap, check that first. Mine was completely devestated, i had to take it out in pieces. If thats fine get a block testing kit from napa for the head gasket.

my overflow fills up and the car doesn't run hot. I put a new cap on and it slowed it down. I checked it today.. i'm 99% sure it's my cheap aftermarket radiator that doesn't fit the Rad cap well. I bent the cap tabs down a bit giving it more down force. I drove it around and it's not filling up now. But i'm still gonna go to napa and this block test kit or whatever... But I have money riding on the cheap radiator from Autozone doesn't fit the cap right. I've always hated cheap plastic radiators. b/c when I put the cap on, it doesn't seem like it seats. like the cap is to short for the depth of the rad cap. Seems like the cap needs to be another 1/16" - 1/8" longer to ensure the bottom gasket has positive pressure on it.

Did you know that the turbo cap is shorter than the NA cap? Most aftermarket rads use the N/A cap dimensions. If you carryover your turbo cap it will not fit right.

Yeah I have the same problem goin on right now. First of all the thermostat started sticking again(I had just put a new oem toyota one in 2 weeks b4 it started sticking) so I ripped the guts out of it and just let it free flow. That seemed to work pretty good, but then after about a week coolant started coming out the overflow and it wasnt even heating up. Im pretty sure it's a bhg but after 2 weeks of driving it like this(and keeping a real close eye on my coolant...checked/added everytime I drove at all) I changed my oil and found no coolant in it at all. I do still believe its a bhg but I notice when I add coolant and then burp the radiator it doesnt leak hardly at all compared to when I just add the coolant and put the cap on.

I got a NA 88 Cap on it. I drove it pretty hard today, and for about 30 miles and the overflow hasn't filled any yet since I bent the rad cap tabs down a bit more. i'm still gonna get a HG check kit, or leak down test it. But for me... Looks like I'm keeping the mk3 and selling the mk2 turbo car. b/c my girl wants a "new" car... ug. so if it is a bad HG, i can take my time on it.

I havent really looked into it that far yet...I have a friend that also owns a 89 supra and we just bought a leakdown tester, so when he gets that we'll see but im guessing it wont be for a while yet...I also have an old engine that Im trying to rebuild and its my first time working on an engine so wish me luck.
