Does the plastic timing belt cover matter?

I noticed that my cam sproket timing cover is broken around one edge. I get the impression from a few pictures on this forum that I can go without it on my car when she runs.

Opinions, options?

yeah just be extra careful not to spill or drop anything down there. be sure theres nothing flapping around in that area (why there would be?) that could get caught in the cam gears.

Remember tho, it's not there for show. It protects the gears form ANYTHING as dirt and rocks and shit like that could get between the gears and the belt and possibly fudge pack your engine. If oyu really want to see the gears and stuff get a clear one, that's what I'm doing because it still offers the protection i want, but lets me see it all at the same time.

they're not too expensive. hundred and some dollars.

HPF has 'em.... I'm very partial to HPF... they wont' have theirs instock till the 19th but they have 'em. Cheap too. 128 bucks
