I'm with the why group.
I tried a Permacool fan on one of my Q45's years ago, and spent hours installing it, with the right wires, and all the gee-gaws, and guess what?
IT SUCKED! The car was fine as long as I did not turn on the AC. But in hot weather, when you need the fan the most, you also need AC the most.
Totally was a waste of my time and money. Went back to the stock fan/clutch and shroud, and it never overheated again. Could sit in traffic with the AC blowing Siberia up your backside, and it would not overheat.
Same with the Supra, only this time, it started to overheat at a standstill, in traffic with the AC on... Turned out my fan clutch was shot. Replaced the fan clutch, and it's been awesome ever since.
Can you tell I'm no fan of electric fans on cars where they started life with mechanical fans... I'm sure there is a fan out there that will flow enough to work with the Supra, but I doubt it would be better than the stock setup when it's working properly.
Ok, so back on topic. My 73 Camaro had a flex fan. It was cracking along the blades, and had been damaged by a loose alternator bolt that backed out one day, and started to hit the fan blades as the engine slowed down..(Would only clear the blades at higher rpm, so it was really nasty shutting down the engine that time...) I was a broke teen, so I cut off the broken parts, and just continued to use it! LOL That car was sold a few months later, so I never found out how long my clipped flex fan mod held up.. I'm sure it was not too long.
