i doubt that you could mount that on the stock fan clutch, but you might be able to fab up some way to mount it on there

not nec the fan clutch is better.

i have an article here where they tested several fans with a "fan dyno" and on the car. this included electric fans and mechanical fans.

not all fans are created equal of course. but some of the flex fans outperformed the stock clutch fans. outperformed i dont mean the 2hp increase, .6mpg, or any of that crap. it was strictly airflow based.

i dont remem which mag it was, it is in the attic somewhere. i believe it was car craft, hot rod, or something along those lines.

airflow yes, but they don't really flex and get out of the way when they need to

they rob power pretty bad, might as well take the stock fan clutch apart and lock it up...

they sound kinda cool though, but my brother took it back off on his truck because you could feel the drag on the highway...

have you ever seen a flex fan go through a steel hood before kids!? ITS FUN! I dont advise you play with the flex fan, they are cheap and love to come apart at high revs. 2 cents.

:word8kn: ive seen blades that came apart and lodged themselves into the frame of the car.

"I've also seen a couple cars with gapping wounds in the hood from where a blade cut through when the rivets broke loose."

I thought my opinion would stand better ground with some sort of fact or similar experience.

that would definately suck for one to "fly" apart. good to know
i have tried the electric fan set up that flowed 2950cfm. it was a permacool, but once i added the oil cooler, intercooler, and radiator upgrades, it started to not be as effiecient as the stock set up, which is what i went back to. I was just thinking of a flex type fan cause the stock fans tend to fall apart and crack over time.

I'm with the why group.

I tried a Permacool fan on one of my Q45's years ago, and spent hours installing it, with the right wires, and all the gee-gaws, and guess what?

IT SUCKED! The car was fine as long as I did not turn on the AC. But in hot weather, when you need the fan the most, you also need AC the most.

Totally was a waste of my time and money. Went back to the stock fan/clutch and shroud, and it never overheated again. Could sit in traffic with the AC blowing Siberia up your backside, and it would not overheat.

Same with the Supra, only this time, it started to overheat at a standstill, in traffic with the AC on... Turned out my fan clutch was shot. Replaced the fan clutch, and it's been awesome ever since.

Can you tell I'm no fan of electric fans on cars where they started life with mechanical fans... I'm sure there is a fan out there that will flow enough to work with the Supra, but I doubt it would be better than the stock setup when it's working properly.

Ok, so back on topic. My 73 Camaro had a flex fan. It was cracking along the blades, and had been damaged by a loose alternator bolt that backed out one day, and started to hit the fan blades as the engine slowed down..(Would only clear the blades at higher rpm, so it was really nasty shutting down the engine that time...) I was a broke teen, so I cut off the broken parts, and just continued to use it! LOL That car was sold a few months later, so I never found out how long my clipped flex fan mod held up.. I'm sure it was not too long.

FWIW, the permacool fans are GROSSLY overrated in their airflow....

i dunno, i had one on my pathfinder. it flowed around 2950cfm. when i was driving 166 mph into a strong headwind.

i agree with the suck, or lack thereof.

while we are talking about fans, the tundra fan/clutch is a good upgrade from stock.
