in a few weeks im going to get exhaust system and i was wondering if new a muffler would increase horse power or just make the car louder, my friend got a new muffler on his lancer and he said all it did was make the car louder, and that the car felt a little bit slower so would a new muffler make more horse power and if so what kind of muffler

Baaaannnnn......KAI !!!!!

Power = fuel + spark + air(how fast it enters and then leaves)

The muffler is at the end of the exhaust so if it did add power it would be very small. However if your piping was 2.25inches and you made it 3inches from the turbo back you would gain a decent amout of power.

Some add HP, some add noise. Others will even give HP and noise. It is more than a muffler. Its the whole package deal that starts at the exhaust valve.

No one asked if it was NA or turbo. If it is NA then chances are you'll lose power but be very loud and annoying. If its turbo it wont be as annoying but your powergains will be unnoticable even if there are any.

Gain HP, lose torque.

lots of tq, its sucks really realllly bad. LOL Previous owner was going turbo (in his head) but never did it so now I have a full on 3" system after the stock manifold, no cat and an Apexi N1 muffler.... although I heard its better to keep it since I might be spraying soon and a wider exhaust is better.

no idea, but my torque is gone for low end, its sluggish as helll and thats 1 major reason why, she needs a tiny tune up but I know she still kicks. At 3500rpms she starts to dominate like her old self.
