So i removed the water neck to replace it and needed to remove the distributor to get the 12mm bolt to take the neck off.

I got everything plugged up. all sensors connected. every hose plugged up.

so i go to start it and it sounds really bad. its not firing. I forgot to mark the distributor before i removed it.

Im also throwing a code 41 - throttle position sensor code

i have searched and found these,,, but they arent really for the ge

so im wondering if i have to remove the timing belt and put everything back to tdc or if theres a way i can just get the distributor where it needs to go.

thanks

If that's all you did, take the #1 plug out and verify that it is on TDC with a pencil, make sure the crank mark is on the "0", the rotor should be pointing at the #1 wire. You may have to pull the dist. out a little to clear the teeth to move the rotor a little to get it pointing at #1 wire. Then use a timing light, jumper wire I think it's the same you jumper to check for codes, and set your timing.

I have never put an engine in time before. ?!

i guess i just hook the timing light up, and start it and it does the work?

understand, what your doing before you do anything.... its not just nuts an bolts... there's a theory involved...... that being said...

the mark on the crank pulley.. its a notch.. and theres also a mark on the lower timing cover... you need to match up the the mark on the crank pulley with the "0" mark on the timing cover... you also have to remove the upper cover to make sure both of the marks on the cam gears are pointing upwards.. that way you know that your no. 1 cyl is at TDC on the compression stroke... (it makes a big difference)

once that you figured out that you are at TDC... then you remove the distributor cap... and the bolt that secures the distributor to the head... pull the distributor out.. and line up the rotor with where it would be contacting the no.1 terminal on the cap...

then send it to a shop and have them time it... knowledge is involved... and you seem to be lacking ... no offense.... good luck

Don't think he has to remove the cam cover. If he hasn't changed the belt it should be OK.

http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3 mShould tell you everything you need to know. I wouldn't trust a average shop to know how to time it. They will hook up the light and not jumper the dianostic box.http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=IG&P=20

Thanks man I just got the engine running perfectly.

I'll post this if anyone searchs and needs help like me.

What I did

1. Take a 19mm Socket to the Crank Pulley
2. Match the mark on the crank pulley to "0"
3. Remove the 12mm bolt holding on the distibutor
4. Remove the 3 8mm bolts holding on the cap to the distributor
5. Match the rotor on the distributor to the "#1" on the spark plug wire
6. Put everything back together
7. Use the diagnostics box and a timing light to get everything back in time.

While I had everything off I went ahead and advanced my timing a little. A little more throttle response.

There you go, now you are a certified "Supra Mechanic".:) If you run 93 octane you can go as far as 15 degrees.
