Well, I used the tool c/o jDub to press my plugs in. It turns out the ones I thought were in too deep were sitting right and the others sat in nicely with the tool. They all sit as deep as this pic:

Does that look right? I think it does - just hope it's not too far.

Also, the disc - Mine looks like this:

Back to Doward's post topic - does that look right?

DID you do the two hammer bang?

It was more than two. I would think this plug isn't restricted to two hard blows because unlike the others, each hit won't take from it's "crush" or O.D.

It just bounced around in the bore before I hammered it in and leaves me so skeptical. That pic shows the plug the shop gave me, but I have a new toyota one on shelf. I want to use the toyota one and do it right for the last time. I guess I will find out how well that aftermarket one set in there when I try to get it out to replace with the toyota plug.

I've never fitted that plug either, so I can't say. The one you drove in with the tool looks good...maybe a tad deep, but I would not pull it.

BTW - how did the drive disk work for you?

I redid them last night with toyota plugs, brake-cleaner'd the bores, and used permatex sleeve retainer. They look awesome. That tools is the BALLS. It did drive them in as far as the picture above, but I feel confident. The aftermarket ones that were in there (like the one in pic above) didn't come out too easily and they had been hit in the center an uncountable number of times, went into the bores without cleaning the surface, and didn't have a sealer.

I'll call a machine shop about the disc plug. I figure it's about all I can do now.

I've had two Doorman plugs blow out completely and several more that moved. You did the right thing replacing them with Toyota plugs. It's worth wasting $ on them when the motor is outside of the car. It's a total bitch in the car.

The machine shop got me plugs for $3.50/set. Toyota, $42/set.

It's worth it.
