I finally...finally got the DIS4 to cooperate with my car's stock coils, and everything now is fully functional.

With the 2step rev limiter engaging at 4750rpm with my GT4088, I'm getting 2-3psi.
I know w/o retarding the ign timing I won't see much more... but I just wanted to get some figures from the rest of you running this ignition.

How much boost are you getting with the 2step?
What turbo?
What RPM?

Thanks!

-Brent

Very interesting. Watching thread.

Going to post any new GT videos on Youtube?

Hey Nick, Happy Easter.

Yeah, I'll try to shoot some video tomorrow if the track is open for racing.
If not, I'll still try to shoot some footage of the 2step.

I have yet to play with the DIS4 anymore that just setting it at 4750, but I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Sounds nuts. Where is the launch ? :p

Hehe.
I was so tired of wiring... then re-wiring this thing in: (Mostly from the 15+ year old stock wiring harness getting brittle and breaking.)
Everything isn't as secure under the hood yet for me to feel comfortable launching it.

Once I get the wire loom re-wrapped and the tach adapters firmly anchored, I'll make a new vid. :)

That's awesome, Brent. That car sounds nasty. :) I love it.

I haven't even thought about wiring in the DIS4, yet. Aside from the brittle wiring, I was hoping it wouldn't be too bad. However, I enjoy wiring on my car, so even if it's terrible, I'll likely enjoy it. Haha. Nice work.

Thanks Shaeff,

This is my 2nd DIS unit.
I originally started with a DIS-4 Plus, but wouldn't run on the stock coils.
Since I didn't want to deal with getting new aftermarket ones just yet, I sold the unit.

Bought this one, which is a DIS-4 Digital, (DIP switch model...) less output, but same features MINUS the ability to use the ign retard with a switch. (So no real make-shift anti-lag... just 2step.)

At first the car would idle, but you could hear the coil packs arcing terribly... so I swapped my 89's out for 1991 coils... Less miles, less old, and sure enough the noise went away.

I finished securing it all under the hood now, so next weekend I'll go to the track and see if I can break something. :)

Awesome. :) I wonder if the DIS4 + would work with tooquick's C.O.P. setup... I'll have to dive into that if I get some time. :)

Don't COP's need 6 separate channels?
In that case you'd need 2x DIS4 units, or a DIS4+DIS2 if they're compatible that way.

Something like how IJ used to have.

Yep, bumping a few month old thread...

Brent, Tooquick's COP setup works with the stock ignition system, so there's no need for six separate channels. Check it out here:

I've already got the coils for it. I just need to find the time to wire up the little harness. My car is so far from running right now, though, that it wouldn't be wise to go messing with that stuff now. I'd like to get it running again first. ;)

Shaeff,

Good info!

I took some time off from the car, but should finish this weekend. Purchased the GM twin tower coils from MSD, just gotta finish wiring them and then make my own cables. (Not a problem though, I bought some 8.5mm MSD wires in a kit... just gotta measure, cut, and crimp and I'm rolling again.)

After all that, I'm going to put a quiet exhaust back on, redo the fuel system then go back to dyno 600hp.

LOL, I keep taking time off from the car, too, but it's unintentional. It's more like lack of time, period. :(

Brent: That's awesome, keep us updated! :) Oh, and let me know how you like that MSD kit- I've been thinking of picking it up as well.

I say "kit" loosely, it's a V8 application I found at a local parts supplier... and I'm trimming it to my application.

Here is a picture of what I have so far:

It's a freakin' mess, I know.
