I remember hearing that a dipstick from a later Toyota pickup would fit in a 7m and read full with half a quart more (middle is full). I'm so sure i read this in the forums before.

I want a dipstick where you can actually read the oil level. Maybe if I scratched it up with sandpaper or something.
yeah thats what most of us do anyway. and half aint full on the dipstick. thats about a quart too low.

Go to the dealer and buy a dipstick for the mkiii, it has been updated. I bought one a while back and it's a big improvement over the old one, I had even tried roughing the old one up to make it work better but it was still a pain, so I bought the new one.

Are all the dipsticks the dealers have now upgraded? I thought I read that the in 91 or 92 the dipstick was upgraded then. I just went into my local dealer and asks for a dipstick for turbos of that year, even though mine is an 89.

Works excellent I must add.

yes it is new. its a redesigned one. my 91 had the old style one and it sucked. the new one is easy to read and IMHO right up there a new HG and retorque!

^^Thats the one, works great, I have no problems reading the level on the new one. I think I payed around $12-$15 for mine, it's well worth it. (as others already stated ;) )

So just go ask for a '92 turbo dipstick? Or if I went in and asked for one for an '88 they would give me the same one?

Couldn't tell ya. I just went in and told them I needed one for a 91-92. Figured I'd play it safe that way.

Yeah, but anyone have pics of what the handle looks like? Mine's a bit weird as mine is bent into a circle on the end and covered with a rubberized thermal cloth tube. Kinda like a P on the end. Most of the one's I've seen don't look like that.

It the standard plastic T-shaped handle that was on the 89+ models. This is the only picture I could find of the handle. Sorry, its not very clear...

Excellent, that's what I was curious about. I didn't know if the P shaped pull was common or not. It's kind of stealthy as it's easy to look over and you'd be surprised how many people who don't know the car are completely clueless if it doesn't say "Engine Oil". Go figure.

the yellow pull sleeve is the pre89 style and post89 got the t. the pre is alot easier to read before the redesign.
