The 18-55 is a very good kit lens. My d50 came with the 28-100 which is a giagantic peice of shit. Ugh.

If you're willing to drop some money on a crisper lens, I highly recommend the 18-70. Its a frickin fantastic lens.

Tissmo, thats a fantastic deal you got! Damn!

AF, thats a very clean shot for a night shot at ISO400. Well done.

Thanks, but honestly I just did a point and shoot. I had the camera on AUTO. I just have to find some time to actually mess around with the camera.

Speed: It's the Nikon one that came with it.

Tissimo: It's just the way that they came out. I've taken plenty of other pictures where everything is in focus. I think that I got the same starter kit as you did. I got it from Ritz and it was $650 for the camera/18-55 lense, 55-200 lense, case, and dvd's right?

actually I got mine at buydig.com the d40 18-55, 55-200, 2gb sd card and a cleaning kit for 560. I also bought 2 UV filters as well to help protect the lenses (like 15 each)

Yeah! My dad bought it when he was my age. I have a friend who has 9 A1's(and other various editions) and he says mine is the nicest he has ever seen.

that's cool. i bought mine several years ago. though, the guy had already sold a gorgeous telephoto lens, as well as an amazing wide angle lens. :(

it's dusty right now, but trust me, it cleans up very nice. (which i'm doing right now;)) here's a few close-up shots of my A-1. click to enlarge:

i really only shoot nature and wilderness... it seems to be mostly forgotten in modern photography.. I like to take pictures of creeks, forrests, swamps, lakes, waterfalls, etc etc, not people, technology, blah

i took 3 college classes for basic photography...

Right now i use a kodak 7.1 megapixel

since we're on the subject of unphotoshopped photographs, and since I'm too lazy to upload anything to my photobucket, here are a few that I shot.

Remember, that these are how they came out of the camera, with the exception of resizing for convenience.

Basically, I used a handheld flash, and walked around to different guitars in my studio while keeping the lights off to not overexpose the film...took a couple of tries, but I like the way it came out.

And...

On this one, everybody asks me "how did you do the fire..."

The answer is: with fire.

This is what happens when you walk around a car with a spray paint can torch...dumb idea, but it looks cool.
