Yes and if they are both LSD
It is more then likely you will end up with a shorter gear ratio for better acceleration.

IIRC 87 is a 3.91, and 90 is a 3.73. Either will fit, keep in mind, your speedo is going to be off if you switch.

Edit: Should have said this is turbo 5spd

Iirc - all LSD

87 4.10
88 3.91
89+ 3.73

you can swap them over but the speedo will be off

The 87 that I parted out had a 4.3 ratio in it.
Didn't the 4.1s only come from Japan?

I dont see how this could get so messed up.


4.1 torsen is JDM and they shatter under load shock you could call them a glass diff.

In US models
86.5-89.5 they are 3.9
89.5-92 they are the much taller 3.7
NA models also had an optional LSD 4.3
So if it had front headlight squirters it had LSD,
but it was optional in the case of my old white 1987
it did not have squirters but it did have an LSD diff package.

Vin codes do not lie
read the 4 digit axle code
on the VIN plate.

G315
G means it is a 8" diff
31 means it is a 3.91 gear ratio
5 means it is a 4 Pinion LSD clutch pack

Other codes you will see on a supra
4 = 4 Pinion open diff
28 = 4.30
30 = 3.727

G299 in JDM vin codes
G = 8"
29 = 4.10
9 = LSD torsen
