hello,

I've been looking all over the net trying to find if there is a difference in the JDM and "non-JDM" versions of the motor.

Are there any?

I purchased my supra used and it has a JDM engine swapped in.

Thanks! :naughty:

oil pressure seding unit is different. Don't try to use it, it'll fry your gauge. Also the throttle body is slightly different.1 vacuume port vs 2, and different linkage is used. Thats all I can think of for now.

JDM- no EGR valve assembly, only one nipple on the throttle body, the brake booster vaccuum port faces the wrong way (just use your old one with new copper washers), the throttlebody is a direct-linkage type. (you can adapt it to your car and the throttle feels a LOT better than that crappy linkage) oil pressure sending unit.

the HP/TQ numbers are identical to USDM motors. the wrap-around heater pipe (steel one) is set up for a RHD car, which means you have do some funky heater hose routings, or put on the USDM unit, the thermostat housing is missing the BVSV (i think?).

that's about all i can think of off the top of my head.

The ECU is different. Main engine harness is about 18" shorter. The block water line is usually a dual use...plug on passenger side for Lt hand drive...plug on drivers side for Rt hand drive. I've only seen USDM lines with no plug on the passenger side.

When I received my JDM motor I had to switch the Throttle body, put the egr cooler and the egr valve from my old motor to the JDM motor and take the two block off plates off of the JDM motor off, change the water neck by the thernostat because the JDM one had two holes(one was a sensor the other hole was blocked) and the USDM motor had three holes(two sensors and a BVSV), I changed my oil pressure sending unit, and I used my old wiring harness and got rid of the cut wiring harness that was on the JDM motor. Hope this helps.

Also I had to change the hard heater pipe on the JDM motor that runs on the side and the rear of the block from the lower timing cover. It took me a while to figure out why I did not have heat. I finally figured it out that the driver side of the pipe had a metal cap on it and I just put the return hose over it and not knowing that it was blocked lol.

Don't Honda's sometimes have different compression, and higher hp/tq numbers or no?

Anyway, thanks for the answers so far.
Is the Supra made by Hon-duh?:3d_frown:

Their are only a couple of reasons to buy a used engine. One would be you sent a rod through the side of the block, and Toyota shortblocks are expensive. The other is to do a build and keep driving at the same time. Although you should not be doing a build if you don't have a second form of transportation.

I purchased the car back in september. I drove it for about 3 weeks and then dropped it off to a family friend who is a toyota mechanic.

The Boost, and Oil Pressure guages didn't work and the heat did not work.

He was telling me that there aren't any differences in a "motor from Japan" because all supra motors come from Japan anyway.

Now it is December 31st and he still isnt done "checking out" my car, haha.

Oh well,

Guess Ill keep driving the Civic HX, 33MPG isnt bad.

chances are that your heating problem lies within the heater valve, located on the exhaust side of the firewall. it kindof looks like a mushroom. actually, here's a picture:

see that little plunger lookin' thing on the underside? pull it up and zip-tie it in place. your heat should now work. (if that's the case, get a new one!)
