A friend of mine has a 280zx with the L28T under the hood. He put the turbo off a newer cummins diesel on it, and it works very very well. Car gets down.

a supra that i picked up awhile to flip had a holset turbo from kenworth bigrig, the previous owner was a fabricator and made his own adapter. but when it was all ready to go he forgot to put in a wastegate and blew the bottom end!! the turbo spooled really quick. but it would be nice to see one driving not knocking lol.

Rather then argue about motor size why not just take some measurements on the turbo. inducer/exducer etc. A diesel turbo is not "different" from a gas turbo and most diesel turbos from semi's that I have seen (my grandfather owns a repair shop) are about T66 sized.

semi's make about 450 hp and guess how turbos are rated, by horsepower. Depending on turbo specs this could be an ok (but not ideal) turbo for the application if going for bigger power.

Also for info on the GT4294 look here www.turbobygarrett.com

maybe not in the military they arent....but the civilian version is!!!

HUMMER H1 is powered by a retuned 6.5L, turbo-diesel V-8 engine that for 2004 delivers 205 horsepower (152 kw) at 3400 rpm and an impressive 440 lb.-ft. (596 Nm) of torque at 1800 rpm. That's 10 horsepower (7 kw) and 10 lb.-ft. (14 Nm) of torque more than the 2003 powerplant. Yet enhanced performance is only part of the engine's story. The retuning also enables the 6500 to meet the more stringent emission requirements starting in 2004. It's mated to GM's Hydra-Matic 4L80-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. Over time, this transmission monitors the customer's driving technique and adjusts for driving style. The New Venture Gear Model 242 transfer case enables the driver to customize the drivetrain configurations to match virtually any terrain.

humvee's are my all time fav vehicle...been obsessed with them sense i was a child....there isnt much i dont know about them....

They know all-too well that the typical road trip gives them plenty of time to enjoy the scenery because highway travel really strains the big SUV’s 6.5-liter turbo-diesel V8 and four-speed automatic. The engine’s 205 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque just doesn’t cut it for moving anywhere quickly except off-road.

yes the hummer h1 aka HUMVEE....has a 6.5ltr turbo diesel

Currently, five engine types and three automatic transmission types can be found in Hummer H1s. The common engine/transmission combinations are:

* 6.2 L Detroit Diesel V8/GM TH400/3L80 3-speed
* 6.5 L Detroit Diesel V8/GM 4L80-E 4-speed
* 5.7 L Vortec 5700 gasoline V8 TBI/GM 4L80-E 4-speed
* 6.5 L turbo Detroit Diesel V8/GM 4L80-E 4-speed
* 6.6 L Duramax LLY turbo Diesel/Allison 1000 5-speed (model year 2006)

back in the early 90's they offered cummins diesels

Could it be done? Maybe. It's easy to strap any turbo to any engine, relatively speaking. But all the headache and cost to make it run properly will pale in comparison to walking the path well travelled.

Get a CT26 off someone here, there, or anywhere, and go the tried-tested-and true path. If you're hurting for cash, upgrading a car now is only opening a really really big can of worms.

2500???? Please...majority of diesels can hit 4000rpm....atleast today engines can....but they also have huge strokes combined with force feeding...they move massive amounts of air!

Anyway I think this is a bad idea and you should get your ct-26 rebuilt...the classifieds always have a used ct-26 ruffly $200.

Not really. I know this was somewhat covered already. It isn't the long stroke per se, it is also the slow burning oil fuel. Most don't do 4000. I know the passenger cars do with tuning. I am aware of VW TDI.

Big powerplants rarely see the plus side of 2200.

The early one came without, including the 6.2 and 6.5. Later HMMWVs came with a 6.5 turbo.

Listen at the end u need to take measurments and research. I drive trucks everday. When i pop the hood to check the oil i often think about using one. It does'nt matter where the turbo came from it matters what the turbo is made of. ( wheels and housing etc)
Nick M ur right if there isn't to many diesal motor that rev past 2200. A lot of them don't even make power past 2 grand.

Not to be a dick but a HUMVEE is not a HUMMER. AT ALL. You said humvee that is a military vechicle. Hummers I don't know a lot about them. I know plenty about humvees.

Almost been killed several times in one of them. Now idk if military humvees before I was in the marines ever came turbo but I doubt it,as I've drivin somne old ones.

So yeah hummers are sweet, but thell never be a humvee. As humvees are humongous pieces of shit.

most diesels dont make a lot of power per se'....but ohhh the torque:aigo:

but yah most haul trucks/dozers I see dont do much past, if any past 2500rpm
unless of course they run away:evil2:

but the 797 haul truck has 117 litre displacment!!! and its "redline" is 1700rpm if I remember correctly...been awhile.-just some interesting facts.

When I used to run heavy equipment (bulldozers,escavators) the machines where governed....at full throttle if the load would start to build then automaticly the motor would increase rpm...kind of like a gas generator...but these machines didn't have tac's so I don't know what rpm I was at...and it's been 11 years sense I've been in a semi truck.

It is HMMWV, not humvee. Not to be a dick.

We are giving many to Iraq. In addition to the MRAP, you are going to be getting these. In time.

either way they are the same damn vehicle....sure one actually has an interior unlike the military ones but the major components are the same....guess the government gets the shitty motors instead of the bigger motors.

WOW... I wouldn't have expected THIS much responce from the thread! lol

FYI... Yes, I'm low on cash and in a world of hurt... My CT-26 turbo is shot and Yes, I could just get a replacement and go "Stock Tried and True"... but my thought on the matter, if I'm gona dump money into it, and can get 25lbs of boost for $100 more by doing it now... hey... I might as well go for it!

Some things that I have learned from this whole thing... I keep seeing a LOT of comments on the RPM diffrence of Diesel compared to the Supra... The turbo could give a rats ass less as to how fast the motor is turning... the only thing the turbo cares about is how much Airflow is comming out. EG, a 6ltr (Gas or Diesel) spinning at 2500rpm is going to move 15,000 ltr of air per min. Our motor will push the same amount of air through the hot side of that turbo in the same amount of time while we are running at 5,000rpm.

One of the problems I'm running across is that (as someone pointed out in an earlier post) WASTEGATE... Most of the Diesel turbos I'm running across don't have em'! WTF!?!? Due to the size of most of these things, I don't see any way to install one between the manafold and the turbo... bringing in another radical idea... Put on your thinkin' caps folks!

A Second BOV that is Preasure (not vacume) activated... Have it open at 14psi (before I hit fuel cut off) and cycle back into the intake (after the MAF) to avoid throwing off my Air to Fuel ratio. She would be loud as all hell, but once I upgrade to get past the Fuel Cut Off, I should be able to easiely increase my boost to what ever the Diesel was running, maybe even Higher if I can get a turbo from a 5 ltr Deisel)

So... now the question is... how to adapt a BOV to work on preasure? Is there ANYWHERE on our motor that still has vacume while we are under boost? If so, use the stock wastegate controler to open a valve and alow vacume to a cheep BOV from a salvage yard should do the trick.

(Are there still any questions as to where I got my handle? lmao rotf)

You must of been misinformed on the fact they dont have wastegates, diesels dont have BOV because they have no throttle plate, and they are vacum operated, ie after the throttle plate on a gasoline engine.

ohh and i'm all for if it breaks upgrade it, but dont think you can drop a huge ass fucking turbo on and push 25psi, your gonna have to upgrade A LOT of other stuff,

if you still wanna do this you can just use an externa wastegate, and your stok bov...not sure if it'll be good to 25psi but you got LOTS of other things to do then.

The first suggestion should have been to find the specifications for the turbo.. Then it can be determined if it is a good idea or not.

Usually these turbos have a plate on the compressor housing that usually have the info you need. If not, look up the kind of engine it came off of and the manufacturer will have the info on the turbo.
