So I have found a diesel GT4294JNS with a 1.28 A/R diesel inlet flange and 5" v-band outlet internally wastegated.

Do you guys know if the turbine is the same? I just want to swap the housing out to a 1.01 A/R with 4" v-band and t4 flange. I dont want to buy the turbo if I cant change the housing.

turbine is the same as what? it should be a S-trim turbine wheel no?

the 1.01 is what i sold x-man for his gt4202 and it works great. they are kinda spendy tho and sometimes have a lead time since they are custom made.

I need to know if the turbine is the same as the other GT42 turbos sold specifically for gasoline engines. I know that the GT42 comes with different compressors - the 94 and the 02 - and basically I need to know if the turbine was different on the version of turbo that Im looking at.

The GT42 94 and 02's both come with S trim wheels. On 60 series Detroit Diesels they came with several available turbine housings. A 1.22 non gated and a 1.15 and 1.22 internally gated a/r housings. All of the compressor housings were .60 a/r's with antisurge with one being for the 94 with a 70.3 mm inducer and 02 with a 74.3 mm inducer. They had an older model that had a 1.34 a/r on the turbine but these had 4 bolts that attached them to the CHRA, but they still had S trims on the turbine wheels.
Dave sold me my turbine housing and I had to wait 2 months but it is a nice piece. I paid alittle over 400.00 back 1 year ago for just the housing.

thanks for the info guys - that is the kind of input I was looking for. So you think that the turbo I am looking at is an S trim wheel?

The guy thats selling it wants 400 shipped for this turbo so Im thinking of getting it even if I have to fork out 400 later for a different exhaust housing.

jesus p, i knew you were f00kin nuts, but a damn gt42? power is no longer 1 downshift away, its 2.
Haha. I know Reg Reimer runs a custom turbo on his 1 lap of America MKIV, I believe was originally a GT42 in its life. It has a nice powerband to it though, not that bad at all on a 2JZ with some tuning. The thing puts out about 550whp@14psi.

I did a bunch of research today on the different versions of this turbo - I found at least 20 different part numbers for the GT4294 on the diesel side of the house. However, I was only able to find two different part numbers for the turbines.

Holy shit, this took a lot of time.

Im done looking for similarities now - im just going to call the turbo shop tomorrow and see if its compatable with a 1.01 T4 housing or not.

Garrett sucks for response - or maybe I can just blame the turbo distributor. I still havent received confirmatory word back and I asked two days ago. I have called three times today.

Yeah - it looks like a vband but not the traditional pipe v-band. I assume that the gt-series housing-to-turbo body vband is like the ct26; a more narrow piece of steel?

keep in mind that I only have pics of the turbo - I havent forked over the cash yet and dont want to until I can be sure that housings can be sourced

Sorry for the low resolution - its one of the only pics. See the v-type band retaining the exhaust housing?

This turbo will NOT fit with the 1.01 housing - I just got the word back from Garrett. The turbine wheels are different.

Damn - im sure glad I didnt buy this thing.
