lol, the cummins is a VERY Popular motor in swaps into other makes/models. the 4BT gets swapped into jeeps and small SUV like Blazers often. the 6BT (like Tsuper's and Mine) gets swapped into Chevy full sizes and even the newer fords while the power strokes get shit canned.

however, there is one badass project that made use of a Dirtymax... check this out!
this is something i REALLY wanna do next if i get out of supras and dont continue with Ram's

Learn about fuel molecules, such as diesel and gasoline. Different size, different BTU content, different vaporization.

And then learn about prechambers in the old diesels versus direct injection now.

its my understanding that the diesel engine was originaly designed to burn vegitable oil...only after the inventor died and developers backed by oil comapnies took over, was "diesel" fuel developed for their engine.

Mr Diesel's engine ran penut oil.

Anybody ever read a car magazine(not SSC or other crap) and saw them refer to the engine as an oil burner?

With the picture, you can see where the correct application for an intercooler is. As opposed to the aftercooler, or charge air cooler on our car.

Diesels only can rev to 3000 because of the long stroke? So that is why the Ford GT has no problem pulling to 7500 rpm?

lol... poodles. i love it when diesel owners use starting fluid when they are adamantly instructed NOT to... then they wonder why their 05 F250 needs a new motor... btw, biggest piece of shit diesel produce within the last 10 years. dont get me wrong, when it runs right, its a bad motha fucka... but cmon... Head gaskets, EGR coolers, FICM harnesses, reflashes, VGT failing, melted pistons, Cam sensors, Cam seals... i love how ford also replaced every single failed component with just New, unrevised units. as if they were expecting them not to fail again.

now do us all a favor in rip the engine out of that truck and put it in something lighter that can handle...

Runaway diesels are when they get to the point that they start sucking their own lubrication oil and start burning it. They gt faster and faster and there are only 2 outcomes. You either plug the intake so it shuts down, or it seizes (usually pretty nasty when it happens).

Ever see the monster garage when they made the diesel trike?

T, did you have to pay to join DTR? i can access the classifieds but no all the functions. after talking to Jon about our trucks, he made me really want to try an HX35 on my car! man, an 02 huh, lucky! you have the rear disc brakes that i dont have. youre truck is balls-to-the-wall. mines an ST. Yeah, i know about the VP44's... sorry about your luck! lol im sure youre running the same 47RE that i am... a TC and a VB wont fix the tranny. we really need a built tranny without the internal leakage that comes stock from Dodge. a nice single-disc TC and a VB in a built tranny will hold 800hp no problem. multidisc is FTL, just a bandaid for low pressures.

i WANT a diesel powered MK3... but the chassis would definitly twist up with 800 lb/ft of torque at 1800rpm. plus, these motors are heavy as fcuk.

run away diesels also happen when the mechanical linkage doesnt return on the injection pump or you have a fuel w/ a low flash point like gasoline or starting fluid/ether. plugging the intake is kinda hard unless you have a piece of plywood... you cant just choke out a diesel by hand like a gas motor. you will lose a body part if you stick it infront of a diesel air inlet.

true, the few times I've heard of runaway diesels is with farm equipment, and they usually thorw rangs, shirt, ect in to stop it.

if not, it doesn't end well...

lol... yeah, i could see that. the instructor in my diesel engine class told us stories about peoples hands getting sucked into air horns and getting broken bones and shit because they thought they could choke out a diesel by hand.

imagine just laying your hand across the 3" air horn inlet of a 5.9 Cummins just to "feel the suction". next thing you know, your fingers are being hyperextended backwards because you cant pull your hand off fast enough.

Not that i'm not a fan of diesel, but fuck the amount of "diesel showers" produced is stupid, the amount of black smoke and pollution is more then obserd...

Having a full out smoke screen becuase someone floored it is not good not to mention choking on the fumes for 10 min

The newer diesels are a lot cleaner. VWs 2008 Jetta is California emissions approved. Now thats clean.

I look at the cummins and other truck motors and compare them to the newer clean-burning diesels that MB and VW are putting out. Its like comparing the v8s of a few decades ago to the newer efi controlled motors of today.

The diesels in trucks are, in most cases, far larger than they really need to be. Why cant we buy a small-displacement turbo diesel engine in a compact pickup?

eric has a good point. thats why they 07+ diesels are under much more strigent standards. Any diesel powered vehicle produce jan 07 or later is succeptible to a HEFTY fine if caught Sooting. in all honesty, i Like the Soot. i think its cool and funny. i KNOW its bad for me, bad for you and bad for performance. the Soot means its too cold and it hurts spoolup and power.

Toyota is partnered up w/ Caterpillar, so we should see a Diesel powered Tundra soon. thats probably about as compact as we are gonna see it, as far as i know. Oh, Ford i think is supposed to partner up with Cummins in 09, IIRC. i beleive there are plans for a Diesel powered F150 as well.

and yes, all the diesels produced today, are soot free. check out this information video on the new ISX Cummins motor.

the soot is heavier than air, and settles to the ground...

it doesn't pollute the air in testing that I've seen... (gotta dig it up)

i didn't pay to join dtr.i just filled out the info and started posting.
i'd like to get my hands on an hx35 to start building my twin's,but would like to get a strong trans in it.i've read about the built trans helping put more power down, just because how loose the converter's are in these truck.it will just be awhile before that kind of cash is in hand to do it.
the later 2nd gens supposidly have better brake's,but other member's are upgrading them too.if you buy 3rd gen caliper bracket's,there bigger rotor's bolt right up.you do need bigger rim's after the mod.i love my truck and do make use of the heated leather seats up here in new england.my truck just wouldn't touch the power capability's of your 12 valve

i drive a 1985 toyota turbo diesel pickup, and the only time i kick up plumes of smoke is when the person behind me is tailgating. Just the fume are enough to give me a couple hundred meters on them.
Black smoke means youre recieving too much fuel, so add more boost and a bigger exhaust to help clear the smoke up. Lugging the engine tends to create lots of soot, revving just a bit higher will use less fuel and give you better engine performance. Diesels will always have a 'sweet spot' where they like to rev and produce lots of torque and boost, usually around 1500-2000rpm. Diesel kicks ass!!!

From what i herd the new diesels from the factory emit cleaner air then they consume from all the filtering of the fuel.

Disclaimer: just passing what i herd, i claim no truth nor responsibility for this claim.

oh yeah... and lots of the new diesels have 100k oil change intervals because they have a recirulation that injects waste engine oil into the fuel filter and mixes w/ the diesel. you just keep adding fresh oil and change the filter as normal; ever 7-10k miles.

and soot IS heaver than air, it does indeed settle to the ground instead of floating into the atmosphere.

since ive got so much fuel in my truck, i dont ahve enough air. my boost is already maxed out. however, if i added more air, id make too much power for my trans to contain. as it is now, i can slip the torque converter at 50mph after its locked up. my stock torque output is rated at 430lb/ft. i should be knocking on 500tq right about now and probably 230hp.

aside from the 90% of the dodge trannies coming stock with unacceptable limites of internal leakage, the Torque converters are very shitty. the stator is cast aluminum and has very small windows between the blades so its VERY inefficient at transmitting power... most new converters are about 93%-96% efficent at transmitting torque. the stock Dodge TC's are about 60%... very weak. if you can get a built tranny with internal leakage down to within 8psi or less between ports, youre in GOOD shape!

as far as revving higher to get rid of soot... the Cummins motors are goverened at 2250. they make peak torque around 1600rpm. the front pump on the auto trannies wont move sufficent volume to create adequate line pressure until 1800rpm... sooo, tahts why the dodge TC's are so loose and flash to 2000rpms. it gets the front pump rpm up to where the tranny has decent line pressure... good for their warranty, bad for our pulling power. lots of people who get a converter w/ a lower stall put too much TQ thru to their tranny before the line pressure can hold it... and you end up killing your tranny SOONER than if you stayed w/ the stock TC.

oh yeah, heres my sleeper :) its a Tow package, complete w/ the dumb mirrors
