Dies at idle

Thanks for the part #. Only $1 less than Toyota but $6 is $6 AND NAPA is much closer to the house.

I'm ordering the alternator today and will be rewiring the CPS when I install the alternator. If it still stumbles at idle I'll replace the injector seals again just because. It would actually make sense though as it happened right after a good boost run and only a post TB leak would cause this (known from experience as I had the 'fender box' on the IC piping literally blow apart while driving at 12 psi and was able to make it 1/4 mile to a parking lot, idled perfectly).

edit: Ordered the alternator from DM. A freshly rebuilt 140 amper should hold much better than a 20 yo 70.

One thing alot of people overlook are injector seals, my car wouldn't idle warm either and I could hear a hissing sound around the same area you are explaining so I tried the starting fluid trick with no luck. I then took off my intake manifold since I thought that gasket may have blown out, but it looked brand new. So upon looking around I found this

I am not saying that this is your problem but you can visually check them and check them by trying to spin the injector they are supposed to spin freely. The only thing that throws me off is how it showed up out of nowhere but I suppose if the seals were old they could have cracked and broke but I don't know it's just something to check.

As for the car not cranking check the black and blue wire to the starter sometime when you pull off the manifold if you tug on the wiring harness it could have unplugged it.If it is plugged in try to wiggle, it might not be in all the way. Good luck

damn good idea!!!

Did you get this figured out yet? let us know what you find out.

The alternator will be here today. The local Supra meet is tonight so I'll be getting the alternator on, verifying that it's charging, and running to the meet.

My best guess though is that the alternator will not be THE fix and I will still have some troubleshooting to do this weekend. Looking at it though the stocker had a good run. 220k+ over 24 years.

New alternator is installed and charging at 14+. Seems to be a more stable cold idle.

The CPS wiring is definitely shot though. Had to wiggle it again to get her started and the idle drooped when I dropped the hood. Once I get that wired up with a new plug (just gonna grab a 4 wire auto plug from pep boys or napa) I'll start hunting any vacuum leaks.

That's only one side of the plug. I've have my CPS apart previously and would prefer to completely replace from the solder to ~10" past the plug given it's current state.

Just an update.

It appears to have been a combination of a weak alternator and CPS wires that were in need of repair.

Been running for 4 days now without a stall after rigging the wiring. Even sat in line for an hour waiting to get into a show with 0 issues.

Should have my weather pack connectors in place as soon as they come in and not have to worry about it again. Local places either didn't have anything decent or wanted $20 a side for weather pack (with a 4 day wait) so I decided to order them in.
