Are these things any good? I've got two friends using projectors, both dark chrome. One has a true HID conversion, and the other is using just regular halogens. Both suck. But I figured it might be due to the dark chrome not reflecting as much light. Would these be any better than, or at least as good as OEM? I would stick with an OEM halogen bulb. Headlight went out on me and I'm afraid to call Toyota.

What is the difference between the non DOT e-codes and the other hellas that ARE DOT approved?

DOT has a weird pattern that is meant to help illuminate signs, which in turn drastically decreases the light on the road. The non DOT focus the light how it should be, and is friendlier to other drivers. You can actually read about it on the link poodles posted.

they use the available light far more efficently...instead of blinding oncoming drivers...

do a good rewire or get HID's and they're great...

Not going to argue on this, but DOT is a horrible compromise and it doesn't focus the light correctly. It wastes nearly as much light as it uses...

DOT is basicly two hotspots with tons of glare around it, leaving a nice black spot in the center on the sides. E-code is flat, good cutoff with a wide beam and a small flare to the right side to illuminate signs on the side of the road.
