Diagnostic code 13.......check engine light

Well, I finally got my car running again with a new engine......I think the bad CPS wiring at the plug caused the detonation death of the last engine, the last 1/8" of wires were bare and frayed, most likely touching each other at the plug. So I found another plug and wired it in. Now I have code 13 and I cant find why. I searched and code 13 means Crank sensor circuit, and something about the NE signal wire (crank sensor input at the ecu)......well I checked out all the wires and it seems to be ok, I even changed the crank sensor with a known working one and I still have the code. Can anyone confirm if code 13 is for the cam sensors too?.

Any other ideas?, besides re-wiring the cam and crank sensors with new wiring?. BTW I find it wierd that when the check engine light is on, it flickers when the turn signals are on.

Does the car run fine? Just curious. I've had that code as well, but only when the car was not running properly.

You might want to check out the online JZA80 TSRM for detailed test procedures.

Sounds like you aren't grounded very well, as far as the engine light dimming with the turn signals. Does it also dim when the heater/blower is on?

Yes the car runs great, no misses or pops anywhere. I also checked the spark plugs and there was no sign of detonation. I guess I will kepp checking things. Can anyone confirm if code 13 involves the cam sensors too?

I have a code 13 on my JZA70 car also. It runs excellent with no apparent wire breaks or the such. It is driving me crazy. Please update if you find the cause of your symptom.

Well I figured it out yesterday, I checked the resistance on the cam, and crank sensors, and one of the cam sensors was toast. I replaced it with one from my old engine, and the light and code is gone!!!

Where are these sensors on the engine?

yes that the one, well there is two of them there by the fuel rail area. I think the oil comes through the sensor itself, scince the sensor is inside the head where its bathed and surrounded by oil.

This would be a cam sensor?

Any idea why there is oil all over that connector?

Oh yeah mine was the same way. All in oil outside. I pulled it out for curiosity and it was all in sludge and oil and crap. There is a o-ring on the sensor i think it might help with the oil coming out. I didn't change mine because i changed the engine right afterwords.

As an update my sensors were both fine, even with an oil coating. The problem in my car was wiring.

That is most likely unlikely on another car but happened to be the case with mine. That is the ecu wiring that goes through the firewall. The worst spot was inside the car about 10 inches away from the ecu.

Food for thought. Check resistance of cam sensors before getting new ones.
