So, a little background...

In my current position at work, I am responsible for (among other things) specialized corrosion testing that requires a relatively complex laboratory set-up to complete (that my company no longer has for some reason). So, we outsource the lab work to a place in Houston (I'm in Canada, so cross-border shipping is required). Now the testing of these samples, which are essentially just small bars of steel, is rather costly. We use FedEx to send them down and have never had a problem. DHL has lost a few sets of samples, but that is beside the point.

I had a set of samples sent back to me, oh, about 2 weeks ago. They were sent express. After a few days, I wondered where they were, so I made a call to the lab in Houston, who was going to track the shipment down for me. I'm quite busy so I forgot about the whole ordeal for a few days until yesterday. I called the lab again and got the tracking number. The shipment has been sitting in customs for 10 FUCKING DAYS. Neither I nor the lab in texas received a phone call. I called DHL to straighten this out, and they tell me the file was closed in the US and thats why nobody had been notified. FILE CLOSED? What the fuck does that mean? (I still do not know). Is this a regular occurrence? Do they have warehouses full of packages that people have not been notified about??

Apparently the delay was for brokerage which it seems every other shipping company will deal with themselves unless you explicitly state you have your own clearing agency. So I get the brokerage straightened out, and I still wont have the package before next tuesday! (this is friday). So much for overnight express shipping. Never again will I use DHL. Enjoy chapter 11 DHL!

(as a side note, I previously had a shipment sent DHL express to a town approx 6 hours away that I was flying to to do some work. The packages were shipped out friday, and arrived TUESDAY!)

Since cost is not a factor, it is fedex for me from now on at work. If you are ever contemplating sending or receiving a cross-border package, DO NOT use DHL.

cliffs: dhl has fucked me again.

I have recently moved my entire computer company to FedEx as my primary shipping co.

Go do research on how FedEx does business - the drivers have a VERY good reason to ensure everything is 100% on time and UNDAMAGED.

I take great offense at your thread title:

"DHL may be the worst shipping company out there..."

That's so wrong.

You should have written it:

"DHL is without a doubt the worst shipping company out there..."

And where exactly do they hire the drivers? From mugshot lineups at the police station?

I would rather gouge my eyes out than use FedEx! They suck major ass. I hear that is on a station by station thing though. The 2 different companies this is stupid. UPS can handle it, and FedEx can't even copy it. All that said, DHL would NEVER even be considered.

^Must be your locals. My FedEx service has always been top notch and on time, UPS has broken more stuff than I'd like to remember, and DHL can't do anything right. I think they may actualy be worse than the USPS.

Are you kidding me??

Driver looses a package, it comes out of the driver's paycheck. How's that for incentive? The drivers also own and run their own trucks. FedEx supplies the items to be shipped, and the drivers make money based on how close to 100% they have their deliveries 'On Time'

If your FedEx driver blows goats, then call Corporate and request a different driver. In this economy, there WILL be someone else willing to work with you.

FedEx is also almost 1/2 the price of UPS for me.

FedEx also lock their trucks with an electronic lock that is controlled with a wristband (at least around here).

USPS is fine for the most part as well.

Not for shipping anything of significance they aren't.

I can post before and after pictures of the SAME PACKAGE after delivery by USPS. Considering I spend $300-$500/wk in shipping, they just lost a significant chunk of change.

FedEx has even been cheaper than USPS via my business account.

I've had good luck with things shipped to me by USPS...

NEVER have it say "Insured" anywhere on the package.
NEVER have it say "Fragile" anywhere on the package.

That's just asking for trouble ;)

I'll agree with you Adam, DHL blows chunks. My damn HID's were shipped over a week ago from Colorado and they finally tried to deliver them yesterday morning at 9:45AM. When I got home at 1:30PM I see the notice. I call them up and they tell me the truck that has my lights won't get back to the warehouse until after they close and that the driver can't re-deliver my lights until monday because they don't even have Saturday delivery. FUCK YOU DHL!!! I was looking forward to having HID's tomorrow, but DHL fucked that up.

I've had that experience with other delivery companies as well. I've had a package sit on a truck for THREE FUCKING DAYS.

Finally threatened to report it as theft/lost and open an investigation....package was delivered within the hour.

Fed-ex are great,

I shipped an item from the UK, collected 3pm local time, delivered to Hawaii 1pm next day! But it cost loads for me to use it, And they put custom's charges on nearly everything that comes into the UK, you get a letter about 2-3 days after the item is delivered asking for money, to cover import duty/tax and a handling fee.

I use DHL in the UK, but sometime's the tracking is rubbish, had one item spend 3 day in delivery depot according to tracking, but it was delivered on first day,

In all honesty our postal service in the UK is good, prices are a bit higher than i would like, but it reliable and quick.

I get packages 3times faster from US to europe using USPS or fedex, than within europe using DHL.

Well, another shipping company gets thrown to the wolves. FedEx just "lost" a package of mine worth $15K. I hope whoever jacked the package enjoys the 40 rectangular steel bars that smell like sulphur. Cockbags.

Fedex is by far the best shipping company i've ever dealt with.

UPS and DHL is nothing but headaches and long waits on packages.
Prime example:

UPS delivers my new $700 Pioneer receiver. I watch the guy as he delivers another package to someone else, as he's doing so he DROPS THE BOX?!?! I watch him do this and he comes up to me like nothing happened. Fucking retard.

Shipped ct-26 after rebuild/upgrade, got it back with two HUGE holes in the box and dented WG
