If this is your first time taking an engine apart. Take pictures and label everything in Zip lock bags such as "alternator bolts."

yes this is my first time pulling a car motor apart i have pulled apart small motorbike motors but no where near as hard as the 7m, i allready got it apart and didnt think to label everything (i should of now i realise how hard its gonna be to put back) but i have labeled a few things roughly so i hope its not to hard

i am using all stock bolts apart from the head studs will be arp so ill go with the tsrm, thanks for that :)

i might put a build thread up soon to show how im going and if i strike any snags im sure someone on here will know how to help, seams how im a noob lol

cool cheers guys, machine shop ended up taking it apart, measured everything up and everything was fine, faced the block, polished crank etc. for $200 then getting new rings and bearings etc for $200, but they said around $250 to put it back together so im gonna have a good crack myself and see how i go.

as to labelling, i only did a few things and now thinking about it i am going to regret not labelling everything lol

who here has actually rebuilt there motor? did you just use the tsrm? also did you used the specs from there apart from the head or are there all new specs,
cheers kale

Ive just rebuilt mine, Ground up piece by piece. New Clevite stock replacement pistons, Connecting Rods reconditioned, new piston rings, new crankshaft, new bearings, .5MM Removed from block already & stock head & a Felpro HG, Full set Gasket, Stock everything for now of course. FULL REBUILD 206 miles so far & shes running fine. The only TSRM i used was how to get the Transmission & Engine apart because i had never encountered something like it & i used torque specs as well except the idiotic HG torque spec & probably other TSRM stuff as well... & well last week clutch went out. Got Toyota OEM Bearing, Pressure plate, disc. disc was way different than aftermarket one, OEM Was taller & The other one it has was shorter & it still had a lot of meat on it but i guess the shortness is what made the difference & why it was slipping. the old clutch would grip when most of the pedal was out & with the new OEM it grips almost immediately as you let go of the clutch & oh its a NIGHTMARE to change the clutch on the floor (just used floor jacks & jack stands...) So replace the clutch man! IM JUST SAYING

it just had an aftermarket xtreme heavy duty put in it before i bought it and i took it out and seamed to be pretty good and was pretty good when i was driving it so i dont think i need to replace it yet.
got the block back from the machine shop, they had to take 8 thou off to get it good but he said i would still be fine with the 2mm head gasket, she's all cleaned up and ready to put back together just need to find the time and i want to do it slowly because i havent done it before i dont wanna get one small thing wrong and the whole engine blows up lol.
rings and bearings are in just waiting for the gates timing belt, arp head studs, full gasket kit and mls 2mm head gasket from sip racing then ill have nearly everything

Dude thats exactly what happened to me. Clutch looked good & so did everything else but it started slipping & when we replaced it it STILL looked good. If you clutch grips almost immediately after you start letting go of the clutch pedal then you should be fine. If it grips when most of the clutch pedal is out replace it. youll have the wrong disc. Youll save yourself the nightmare of taking of the transmission.. & your doing fine. 2MM is what i should have gotten but i didn't & up to now its running fine, i mean an extreme pro helped me out aka my father hence how i know lots. & im planning on getting another 7MGTE anyway & do that one with Arps, mods, etc. Keep us updated on your work dude & some pictures would be nice :naughty: & oh yea. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FORGET TO PUT THE STEEL COOLANT LINES ON THE BLOCK WHEN ITS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR.. We forgot to do that & i was thinking we would have to pull it out again.. :slap: we had the transmission bolted up & other & idk how but my father made a miracle & stuck it in, like i said a pro....
