Decking block with timing plate

OK searched for a while got lots of info not what i needed though

Ive recently took my block/ head to a reputable machine shop....

he called me thursday and told me his machine could not deck the block with the lower timing plate installed....

So my question is what kind of machine did your machinist use so i can find one..

how he explained it is that the main journals straddled a pipe and where clamped down so he could not put the block on there with the lower cover.....

My guys usually use the Head Surfacer and a set of blocks under the rails to space it up so the timing case clears.

So they use a different machine for thed head and block that makes sense..

My machinist says he uses a 'CBN machine'. I have yet to google it but it sounds important.
Alls i know is its big.

Anyone else?

"CBN" Is a type of cutter not a machine.

For the machine shop illiterate (me and the OP), I've taken the 2 seconds to help myself and do some actual research.

Apparently a CBN can be fitted to the surfacing machine.

The guy in the video on the link below calls it a resurfacing machine. You get to see how the block mounts up for the machine in this video. The block is stationary, the mill head is what moves.

I didn't find a definitive answer for the name of the machine the OP wants to know.

Edit: Isnms, you are correct. I found SM and never looked back. I remember in 06 when sf removed the search function....

Send the block to a different machinist. We do the head and block on the same machine with no problems.
