No they aren't.

You mean to tell me that I could go to AutoZone or Schucks or wherever and be able to order parts for the 1JZ? Hmm.....I just may have to bring one back with me then.....

Just because you can't get parts from autozone doesn't mean parts are hard to get.

From My searching i have found almost every posible part you could want for your 1JZ. Most of the places are in North america as well. well i think 90% were.

I am looking forward t all the fun stuff i can do with my 1J down the road.

The only stuff i have had true trouble finding are either toyota Specific parts. But usually a Call to Champion fix's that.

The other is finding simple things like a BOV Kit for the 1J or Hard Pipe kit to replace the stock pipes. Allot of places that have stuff for the 1J don't always have it listed on line. So sometimes you just need to ask.

I think they would take a little more searching around to find than say, parts for the "fast and the furious" 2jz.

Again, just because pep boys or autozone don't carry 1J parts doesn't mean parts are hard to get.

Show me one 1JZ part that would be needed in a swap or maintenence or upgrading the turbo setup that cannot be found in a timely manner.

It may not be as easy to find 1JZ parts but is not hard by any means. If you couldn't find what you needed, it's because of laziness not unavailability.

can you get a short runner style manifold for the 1jz that isnt 1 off custom made? I'm talkin about like, veilside, who actually "sells" the item for the 2jz, fuel rails, stroker kits (probably the same).. are the turbo manifolds the same?

Jawsgear had an intake manifold made by virtual works. Fuel rails, mvp did a group buy on those as did SP I believe. Stroker kit? why would anyone want a stroked 1J when toyota made one already? turbo manifolds are not the same but 1J manifolds are available.

1JZ rocks. I dont even know what was the mileage on mine, but I mounted it 6 months ago and have been daily driving it ever since - no problems at all, fun to drive as hell, fuel-economy is awesome... I love it. :)

Parts I've had to buy:
TPS - same as a 1996 4Runner.
Power Steering Pump - same as 2JZ, ordered a rebuilt one from Aaron @ driftmotion, works like a charm.

Here in the Dominican Republic, parts are even tougher than in the US! But if they can find it in the US, I just fly them over here, so it's the same in the end :) .. unless it's something very heavy, but what part of the engine could be so heavy??

I've had my 1jz for a bit over a month now and I've had no engine problems whatsoever. It's started every single time, hasn't lost a drop of oil, and all the time that I used to spend on the 7m fixing little things or doing maintenence, I now spend polishing and enjoying it. The 1jz makes a GREAT dd btw, I fucking love it.
