Holy hell... ever watched Karate Kid... damn not knowing what a Bansai tree is.... yea here is a rule, that I have created, off the idea of everyone else out there... but is very easy to remember...

if you start a question with what is... and ends with an object, just type google...

if you have IE push CTRL Key + N for a new window and make your homepage google

or

if you use Firefox use CTRL Key + T to open a new tab, and look at the top right hand corner, there is a simple google search box right there...

it is amazing... so amazing

Bonsai Tree... A tree that is cut back from birth and is a little miniature version of a much larger tree. They are like what, a few inches tall, but have the same characteristics of a real tree.

Following the idea of a lot of living things, you stick them in a small area (fish do this) they will only grow so big... with a Bonsai tree, they are cut down from birth and learn to grow based on that (and their pot)

I made all that up, in the sense of, I know what a Bonsai Tree is and how it is made, the rest seems logical to me

I just dont really pay much attention at all to what kind of tree's certain plants are.

But this story intrigued me to find out about this tree that got stolen

ok well the real reason i posted...

plant theft is not uncommon depending on the area... a plant can be worth a good 50 bux or hundreds depending on the rarity/upkeep needed in growing it. i believe that bonsai trees are relatively expensive because of their beauty, picky living habits, and just plain interesting features.

a person that really wanted one or wanted to make a quick buck would just nab it. its screwed up and SUPER lame, but it happens. i guess you never think about it until you live where that shit happens. plant's aren't exactly something you can prove ownership of, and a quick trim or re-potting can make any plant indistinguishable.... prime for petty theft i suppose

and i agree with the planting a realistic (with large shipping labels) box on your porch. or another bonsai...
just stand there around the approximate time you suspect the stuff was stolen and jump out and get them. i won't tell you to shoot them with any sort of weapon or physically contact them with anything for that matter...simply because i don't know the legalities of such an act and the possibility of a lawsuit...

if you do do that, put something heavy (and worthless) in the box and try to find a good label... like something from crutchfield, or tower hobbies, or J.C. Whitney. they might steal anything but if its labeled and they are smart enough to know what those places are and that anything big they sell that's heavy is really expensive, they might be more apt to go for it. then they try and make off with the box full of bricks and you nab 'em.

but for what it's worth...give 'em hell:evil2:

Dear Wannabe Thug who stole my bonsai tree,

Please give it back. I cared for that dumb bush the last 6 years, nearly killing it twice. It's at least 20 years old and is a heck of a lot more mature than you. WTF do you want a tiny tree for anyway? Its kinda like a goldfish, but lives longer than you do and not vice versa.

I hate thieves.

Hey man, I can relate.

I have two cactus plants that I've been growing since about '96. I used them for a science fair project. I had 4 plants originally. 2 cactus and 2 normal plants(don't remember the species). The normal 2 died but the cacti lived on(of course), so I decided to keep them and let them grow.

I plan to plant them in the ground whenever I buy my first place.

I'd be pretty pissed if they were just up and gone one day.
