Guys and gals, I have a cylinder that goes "dead" when the engine is up to temp. and i dont know what its from. I had a compression check done not even a week ago -It says all is good- and im thinking possibly an injector going bad. What do you guys think.....what else can i check. I've tried to pull codes and theres nothing stored. Let me know what you think.

Cap/rotor was put in when i put the motor in about 6,500 miles ago. Timing is set at 10 degs. . Ignitor was replaced little over a year ago. Do ignitors go bad that quick though?

Have you identified which cyl is going out? If not try this: Get the car running up to temp, pull one plug wire at a time off the distributor cap. Each wire you disconnect should make the engine run worse. When you pull a plug wire that doesn't make it run any worse you've got the bad cyl.

Once you've got the bad cyl identified, check the contact on the rotor, test the plug wire, pull the spark plug and test it.

IF the car runs worse with ANY of the wires pulled it's something other than what everyone's suggested, such as the AFM. When mine started going out (when the car was warm) it felt like a miss.

It doesn't matter how old the parts are, some are bad from the factory.

Soooo get a handy dandy Volt/Ohm meter... and ohm out each and everyone of your injectors, and compare that to the spec (which I am not sure what the spec on the injectors are, but could easily be found). If one of your injectors doesn't ohm out to the spec, or doesn't have continuity at all, the injector is receiving no signal... no signal = no fuel delivered. Oh and if the injector does have continuity, but doesn't ohm to spec, then your problem would be that injector is not sending out enough fuel, which would also mean the injector is bad.

This process works... its the easiest way to find a bad injector by far.

this is one of the easiest ways, this will help you idendify the problem, or eliminate the posibility.

Really sorry to hear that it came down to that.. I am sorry. But if it makes you feel the least bit better, when stuff doesn't work properly, all that it really means is that it is time for an upgrade to make sure that it does work properly.

^^Exactly how I feel... Not the most common thing to hear around here. Hell, half the time I'm too broke to fix it right, but when I can I upgrade. I generally feel much safer with newer parts than j/y specials.

Bummer about the HG, that really sucks. Did it blow bad? ie: chocolate pudding.

Not so much pudding...more like a milk shake, so it's not that bad. Least it happened right in front of my apartments so i didnt have too far to drive, and it never dropped oil pressure or overheated. Just milkshake oil and a white smoke bath.

I don't know your money situation, but I would suggest an HKS over the Cometics. I have heard of people blowing through their Cometics....

^^^ He was talking about the HKS head gaskets being a safe bet. ^^^
(Yes I know, I have Cometic stickers, which means I am in a way supporting them, but I got them free from a Nopi event, just hope that explains it :biglaugh: )
