i know the ddp sounds sweet but performancewise, does it increase horsepower more than a regular open mouth downpipe would?

any results on both types?

i have a ddp from bic performance and that thing is awsome.....specially when you have full 3in exhaust no cats.....performance wise i have to say that it is the freaken best downpipe for the mk3 ....my opinion...if you check the exhaust section were u review the products there is alot of members using it .....as far as the open mouth dp i dont know wich one u are talking about......go ddp....

To expand on what Grim said, the peak HP gain for the DDP over a regular-or "open mouth" DP-was 29 WHP! There are bigger gains throughout the power curve, but 29 is peak. The torque gains (more important than HP) are also very substantial. This information is based on the actual dyno results of a car that Randy (owner of BIC Performance) published.

There is no comparison between the two setups. If you can handle the noise the DDP is the hands-down choice.

and remember, if you get an electronic boost controller, the wastegate won't open until your desired boost setting, so you won't have the wastegate opening around town and whatnot. only under wide open throttle, and after your desired boost setting has been reached. ;)

I honestly don't think it's that loud, of course I'm always inside the car at WOT...
It's a different story if you're right next to or behind the car.

I used to hang out with a guy with an external wastegate with a dump tube that made his Eclipse GSX sound loud as all hell. I was driving right next to him once when he got on it and it was pretty fucking loud. I liked it!

Ah yes, the rapsy, gutteral throat?

Man, I can't wait to get my own DDP once I run my SP61. I'm a patient guy but being in HI and knowing that I have to wait until I get back to CA to get my car worked on is bugging me.

do you all agree the same gains would be prevelent on an external gate? using a dump tube as opposed to dumping it into the dp?

I've dyno'd both and there were no top end gains from switching to the ddp.
However we gained nearly 60 ft-lbs of torque from 2800 -4500 rpm.
In both dynographs, peak power was 300 at 10 psi. Peak torque climbed from 320 at 3000 to 389 at 2900.
Very worth the money, but think of it as a means to make your car faster, not produce more power. should we have had an upgraded turbo, I'm sure top end gains would have been found.

BIC offers a recirculated DDP (RDDP, I'll call it) for those that don't want the noise of the original DDP. I haven't seen any dynos comparing the two but it only makes sense that the RDDP would produce less power. With the introduction of more exhaust volume and at the angle that it's introduced there would be a negative effect on the flow. I would still expect the RDDP to produce power gains over an open mouth DP, however.
