so yesterday on my to work my 87 na started acting up.....i went to stop at a redlight and she shut off...started right back up as if nothing had happened...came to the next light and same shit....now when i start it up it idles perfect 700ish rpm....but when i move and drive then push the clutch in sometimes it stalls....its not crank walk as when i start it and play with the clutch nothing happens...its just when i come to a stop it fails.....also yesterday my speedo stopped working out of the blue although i figured that was on its way out cause i could hear it making noise for sometime....i actually witnessed the needle fall never to rise again:-(

so other then it stalling when i come to a stop and the speedo not working it runs fine...idles fine...starts fine...eats oil like non other just fine....im stumped and its my daily driver so i kinda need this sorted out asap!

this all just started with no signs at all other than the speedo making noises..

any ideas?

Yeah it sounds like your speed sensor wire given the problem is associated with your speedo. I did a swap a few years back and it did the same thing because of the speed signal wire on decel. Get the speedo fixed and i'll bet my left nut it stops stalling. For a temp fix drive around the problem by keeping a little throttle while pulling up at the lights with the clutch in, once your stopped at the lights it should idle as per normal.

^ This. Without the speed sensor working the ECU doesn't know when the car is traveling less than 11 mph. It uses that along with the IDL contact in the TPS to enable the idle speed control system. Fwiw a code check would have pointed you in that direction...

After checking previously mention possibility...

I had an issue one time of engine shutting off when pressing in clutch coming to a stop.
Cold engine.
Turns out dash pot was not function properly and throttle was slamming shut.
There was a hole in the hose from dp to vtv:

It doesn't stall on a cold motor...just when it's hot and the ecu brings the idle down to 700....it's still cold here in PA so for the first 15 min of driving she is ok.

I'm gonna pull the car into the shop tonight and see which cable broke although I was hearing sounds in the dash it makes me believe it's the first half which sucks!

You sure you want to bet your left nut?...it is the big one after all!
