Everynight for the past few weeks somethings been tipping our garbage can over. Well tonight I couldnt sleep so I was just laying down listening to some music when I heard a thumping sound coming from out side. I look out the window and see a racoon walking across the driveway. So I get up and head to the kitchen to get my rifle (Wierd place for a rifle eh?) put a shell in the chamber and slowly walk out the front door. I get out there and dont see anything since its 4 am and dark, but I notice a suspicious lump sitting a few feet from my cousins car. I think to my self "what the hell" and shoot it.

Right after I squeeze the trigger the lump jumps up in the air and screams, then takes off running.

Im pretty certain I hit it but it was a big bastard and I dont think a .22 was the stopping power of choice. I'll go pick up my 300 mag for the next time it comes around.

I was thinking he was gonna shoot his cusins tire out. like in the movies, fills the car with lead, thinking the raccon is dead... only to be awoken to one pissed of car owner.

A friend of mine and I shot two racoons years ago - both of us with .22's. It took MULTIPLE shots to take them down. They are a lot tougher than I ever expected, and I don't think I would try it with that small of a weapon again.
