Damn, Having an aftermarket oil pressure gauge is scary :)

My factory gauge must be broken cuz it would idle at 20 PSI or so. I finally got my new gauge installed and I idle at like 4. AHHHHH :(

Its scary to look at the gauge and see the needle damn near on 0. It sure does jump up to 20-40 when I get on the gas though :)

lol this is another reason why i wanted to keep my inaccurate gauge :D.
heh but in all seriousness, next time your motor is out shim the oil pump so u can get 6.5 psi at idle ;)

any aftermarket gauge should come with its own sender. my autometer electrical did. also, theres way more that will need done besides shimming the pump. replace the oil squirter check valve bolts and get rid of the crappy stock oil cooler setup for one. that will help ALOT

Defi brand, with its own sensor.

I'm going to do everything I can (to a reasonable limit) outside the engine... I'm sure its fine, its just scary ;)

can you post pics where you put your gauge? I just bought a Defi and when it gets here I'm not sure where I want to put it...

No. :)

Seriously, no, i'm really embarrassed, they look like shit. I put a bunch in at once, and I don't like A-Pillars so they're just all stuck to the steering column, and the part above the factory gauge cluster, upside down(the gauge cup, not the gauge)

When I was just running a boost gauge I used the included gauge cup and put it on the steering column, off to the left, it fit great so I could still see all the tach.

See, that's the thing. I had A-pillar gauges before as well and I don't want to do that again.

I asked specifically 'cause you I saw you had defis and I know they can only be so far apart. I want the boost gauge on the steering column, but I'm not sure if I'll have enough slack to get the others somewhere in the center DIN area

what I did, because I'm impatient, not cheap is made my own harness. They make them but I didn't want to wait for shipping.

Its true, the gauge-to-gauge harnesss that come with the gauges are only about 6-8 inches long.

I cut one in half and used some.... 18 guage or so, wire and extended it.

I have my oil press. gauge in front of the factory one, and the water temp gauge in front of the stock one... so they're kinda far apart. My cable I made works just fine :)

Interesting. Thanks for the tip. so you're saying they DO have longer harnesses available?

btw, sorry to go OT just a bit. I haven't talked to anyone that had more than 1 defi gauge in the car.

did your auto metter sending unit just screw in to your block cuz i cant get mine to go in.

It wont. You need a 1/8 bspt to 1/8 npt adapter. Auto meter PN 2269.

once i get the rest of the in-cluster guages as i call them, in order from left to right keeping the stock speedo/tach, i'll be custom installing them into the stock gauge cluster. it will go as follows, using Defi gauges: water temp, oil pressure, oil temp, boost.

the rest will be installed where the climate control unit was. (relocated to passenger side of dash, it's not like i keep adjusting it anyway, and it's not hard to reach.)

though, i might mount my LC-1/ xd16 gauge up near the cluster as well.

do most gauges use the same type of sensor? the used blitz oil pressure gauge i bought didnt come with a sensor, and i was told i could wire it into the stocker. should i order a replacement blitz sensor, or is it safe to use the stocker? (i dont care about having the stock gauge work)

Shimming the relief valve in the pump should do absolutely nothing for idle pressure unless the valve is broken. It doesnt bleed any pressure at idle, only once it gets up to 40psi or so.

A better suggestion would be to get rid of the probably-leaky stock oil cooler setup if he has it, and maybe get a new oil pump.

in my opinion, the best thing you can do for the oiling system without going inside the motor is replacing the stock oil filter mount with a relocation kit, and the oil cooler with a larger, better flowing unit.

edit: woo! 4000 posts! :)

Woohoo!!! 1000 + a handfull of posts ;)

That's my next mod. I'm going to get all the fun stuff, do everything I can without getting inside the motor.

I used the harnesses that came with the gauges and they worked fine and mine are pretty far apart:dunno:
